Lighting for Red Aglaonema
Comments (20)My local SuperCenter had some for sale during last xmas season. After the New Year, they all went on clearance. They were all still so beautiful and healthy, I just couldn't say no. I ended up with three of them and I repotted them all together into one larger pot. They have done wonderfully all year long. They sit on a table next to my South-facing back porch, where it only gets partial shade/dappled sunlight all day long. Rarely have I had to water it, but that's because my area tends to get regular thunderstorms that roll thru quite often. It bloomed for me earlier this year. (I regret not getting any photos, but their blooms are pretty much inconspicuous anyways.) When I keep it indoors for the winter, it sits on a shelf that only gets minimal indirect sunlight at best, and it does just fine. Tho I may place it in a brighter location this coming winter, because they're all grouped together in a larger pot now. I know I say this about all of my plants, but this is definitely one of my favorites. I just love the bright colors, and they're so easy to care for. :)...See MoreI am looking for a Red daylily with a lime throat, large plant
Comments (6)John Benz's VESUVIAN is a good tall red with a green throat. ( it is a 36" tet w/ 5.5" bloom - mid season, dormant) IMHO, David Kirchhoff's BETTY FORD is one of the best reds around. ( 30" tet, EERE, 5.5" bloom) Absolutely beautiful! His FABULOUS FRIEDA is another incredibly beautiful red. ( 30" tet; 5.5" bloom EERE) These three are hard to bed when it comes to good reds!...See MoreRed aglaonema vs dracaena compacta
Comments (10)I like it because it is a sturdy little plant- they take quite a bit of abuse. The Red Aglaonema are more colorful, but are more finicky about conditions they are grown in. They like to be warm, where as the compacta seam to be just fine with 65 Fahrenheit. The Red Ags like bright like they compacta will tolerate dimmer light for longer periods of time before the "complain". Rate of growth- can't say as my conditions are too cool and too dark for rapid growth, but I would say that it depends on how close to ideal conditions you are able to provide the plant(s). The Agloanema probably grows faster, but I just don't know....See MoreHow much pruning can I do on very large white oak?
Comments (6)With large trees it will be difficult to trim the high branches, and thin the crowns. If it were me, I would clip up every thing that was low enough to hit me while I was mowing under the trees, and plant ferns, hosta, etc. There are several types of shade woods flowers that are very colorful. Re think the goal of your garden, most plants will die with in a couple of years, the oaks could be there for another 100 years. We lost a long leaf pine in front of a house we had several years ago. Not only did we lose the shade but it also affected our air conditioning bill....See Morejamilalshaw26
