I am looking for a Red daylily with a lime throat, large plant

Anyone have any ideas for me? I have enough yellows and pinks, now want some tall reds. Red Hot Returns is a mini, how about Crimson Shadows, and Christmas Lights? Thanks!

John Benz's VESUVIAN is a good tall red with a green throat.

( it is a 36" tet w/ 5.5" bloom - mid season, dormant)

IMHO, David Kirchhoff's BETTY FORD is one of the best reds around. ( 30" tet, EERE, 5.5" bloom) Absolutely beautiful!
His FABULOUS FRIEDA is another incredibly beautiful red.
( 30" tet; 5.5" bloom EERE)

These three are hard to bed when it comes to good reds!

It's Saturday and the sun is finially shineing which hasn't happened for about a week with all our rain. I decided to go to two local nurseries in my town just to see and because I felt like going out. First stop was this nursery out on the highway that I have watched to see when it might open for 3 years. I kid you not. It used to be a boarding stable and has a large property. I don't see how anyone could carry the taxes without opening for such a length of time but its finially open. They must not want anyone to notice as there is just a very small sign by the gate that said open 9-5 which is new. The grounds and buildings are stunning but there is a small amount of plants for sale. Not even a third of the place looked used to me. I bought a black eyed susan vine and just looked around. Went to another local nursery that I have been too many times before but they didn't have anything I needed so I am back home. Guess I will go outside and plant stuff I bought yesterday.

Chris and Debra: I'd love to be able to upload some photos--hoping for a digital camera this year for the bday :) I've been a bit of a Luddite, resisting the change to digital and still using my Nikon FA from the 1980s, and I mostly save my shots for my own seedlings since developing isn't cheap. But one way or another, I'll get myself ready for next year--frankly, it's seeing all the great photos on this site that's put me in the mood to make the switch over to digital. If it's helpful, the shape of Unpredictable You, for me in my garden, has been somewhere between Spock's Ears and Primal Scream. Its pollen went onto White Eyes Pink Dragon and Inimitable this morning. Its dancecard has Belief in Vein, Judy Farquhar and Wispy Rays (if WR actually sets pods this year) waiting in line, :P -Eric

Hey, I would never have thought of it but yes, "I'm An Angel" comes up. D Swanson, 2000 soft peach with soft red orange halo above green throat. Thanks! I planted it already in my Bulb Lily and old daylilies garden bed that I want to spice up with some more daylilies.

Thank you very much. I planted 3 chicago apaches this year so far - bare root. I saw a mini called Christmas Lights or something like that @ a local nursery with the lime throat and would like to add to my collection. Now I will happily go on line to find vendors. Saw a pic of Fire from Heaven and it is beautiful!

Not super tall, but I don't think there's a prettier red daylily than Dragon King and mine has more blooms for a longer time than any daylily in my garden. It's another Kirchhoff and it has a beautiful lime throat.

I have Chicago Apache and it is a beautiful red. I can't find the picture of it, sorry
I also like Illini Pacesetter and it gets about 30" to 35" tall. This picture is from my garden last summer.

Chicago Apache and Chicago Firecracker are both great reds. I have grown them for years and they both do very well.
