Retirement has begun!

As you know, DH retired last week. Rolled his ankle on the edge of the pool deck today and broke it. Talked them into a boot so we can still go to Vegas for my birthday this weekend! The adventures have begun!

I'm sorry you're postponing your birthday, but I think its a good choice. Temps there are forecast to be in the 100s+ and with the walking it sounds like a recipe for his ankle swelling to me. This isn't a great beginning ;0) I hope he heals quickly and completely.

Ouch! Is a boot enough? My brother rented a wheelchair for his wife when she broke her foot. They live in NJ and we flew to Washington DC for a special event. Crutches would have been too cumbersome for all of the touristing we did. They rented the wheelchair and it was doable.

I offered the one I had on order from Palatine to someone else who might need it. Dang. I thought mine would be fine, never thought my daughter would leave the garage door open for 2 hours on one of the coldest days of the year. Mine looks dead....but I'm going to give it a chance...you never know. BenT - you're going to love Chandos Beauty...the fragrance and amount of blooms is amazing! And with how roses grow for you...I can't imagine...but I await eagerly for pictures!!

Thank you all for commenting. No, not angels, just cat people. These are unusually cute kittens. I think cats must be like hobos were in the depression and leave some kind of a sign where cat people live. My husband was a cat lover as a youngster.l. My spouse insisted on taking night duty since I have issues with falling back to sleep and he doesn't. we have a home for one and possibly two already. Sometimes kittens with a story (or ups for that matter) fid homes easier. Yes, Julia, that is a replacement for the New Paradigm I lost and it was planted last summer. We are afraid the mother cat was killed since they won't leave kittens this young otherwise. I have had one leave a sick kitten here (Katie-did-it) but never a litter and these are not sick. Kate, there are two "spots". One a long-haired fuzzy male and the other a very loving female. She climbs my jeans to get up close and likes to touch my face, then curl up on my chest. This should be the last litter, but the way it is, who knows? kay

We decided not to go to Vegas right now, too much walking. Would prefer to go when we can actually enjoy the trip!

Yes waiting to go to Vegas is very wise. 100 degrees with two good feet is difficult! Take the time he needs to heal and start your retirement with ease. My DH retired last Friday and I think I am driving him nuts to slow down and take it easy as we hopefully will have nothing but time on our hands to do all the many things we dreamed and planned for. Wishing your DH a fast recovery!

Simple fracture? Better than a sprain in many cases. Vegas will still be there.

Ankles take a while to heal up - I was out four months. But mine also had a plate and pins put into it.

Great on hubby's retirement! I just did that about 10 days ago myself.

Congrats on your husband's retirement. Hope his ankle heals quickly. This will give you lots of time to talk and plan all the things you want to do!

As I understand it, there is a simple way to make an ankle heal faster - a daily nap!

Husband is scheduled for a revision on his left knee replacement because he has a fractured patella....then he fell recently and sprained his right ankle so he can barely get around now even with a walker....
