Interior brass doorknobs, egg shaped or round, Emtek or Baldwin..
Comments (14)The only reason there is a charge to unlacquer is that the standard is lacquer. Shiny brass is something I do not want to revisit - ever :). I have always loved the old brass patinaed hardware in older homes and decided that is what I wanted to do because I am not a fan of ORB, and was afraid if I used it that I was coming in at the tail end of a very trendy trend. Unlacquered brass was the obvious choice for us in our new old home - particularly since it is what would have been used in the home if it were built in the 1920s. Really not many other options - the nickel/pewter stuff is way to contemporary for me and the black is too harsh for me . . . struggled with this decision forever and finally decided to use it. The comment by the hardware guy that the new, luxury homes in Buckhead (a old section of Atlanta)are almost exclusively using it was just reaffirmation that I had made the right decision!...See MoreInt & Ext Door handles / knobs ...what Mfg & where to buy?
Comments (7)Emtek is a great choice because you are getting a Baldwin quality lock at a less expensive price. Emtek Hardware is solid brass or bronze which makes the locks heavier and more durable than most hardware. Emtek also has a great warranty. Comments (10)lkremodel, which style and finish did you mean? I went to Lockhouse but didn't see anything different. I went to 3 Emtek dealers today. I saw your Rectangular Full Length one. Did you know how massive that thing is? It's really big and heavy. Make sure you see one in person first. I'm considering the smaller rectangular one, the rectangular monolithic. But it's so plain! Plus it has a curvy handle, and my door is all straight lines. I saw the Arts & Crafts one, the one I wanted, but the ORB finish is just not going to go with my black-leaded glass. It's way too reddish, and the hammered texture in the middle really shows the brassy color. About the texture: depending on the method of casting, some have more texture than others. So, the sandcast bronze ones have kind of a rustic look, not totally smooth. The Wrought steel have the roughest finish, like pebbly, but on a small scale. Those are the ones that come only in black, rust and satin steel. The cast brass ones are all smooth. I'm really striking out here on Emtek. I will have to look further to find an Arts & Crafts one in black, or get the Wilshire in Pewter. It's not black, but it's at least a little darker. Comments (3)Either or, a quality hinge is pretty much all the same. You may want to make sure you look at them side by side as not all finishes are the same in appearance brand to brand....See Morearies61
