Hi folks -- I am remodeling a Dining Room and a Living Room and ordering two ceiling fans off the Internet (Quorom Brand - 52" Ea.). I am attempting to select light kits for these and I am confused. I need brightness in both these room but the options are limited. My choices are: - 4 Light Kit (requires Medium Base 13W Bulbs) - 3 Light Kit (requires B-Type Candelabra 60W Bulbs) Which would you recommend for brightness and Bulb replacement availability? (i.e. Home Depot, Aco, etc.)

Yes. See the link I provided above - you can either buy in bulk or in small quantities (1 - 2). These bulbs are arrays of small LED elements (3528 or 3514 chips) arranged around a cylinder. Yes, the lights are bright, but the lifespan is questionable. It wouldn't be too long before the major players - Philips, Osram, Cree start making LED bulbs with different form factors and connectors other than the E26 or GU24 base.

When I returned the "daylight" LED bulbs to Home Depot, I then ordered the 65 watt equivalent 2700k soft white. It was a very good deal $50 for 6 (I needed 6). The color matches closely, can't really tell any difference to my other CFL and fluorescent fixtures in the room--it really was noticeably different. The initial cost very reasonable and the cost savings a great incentive. I know they are brighter than my 65 watt incandescents, but I can't really tell. At least I had a chance to try out the much brighter and whiter "daylight" LEDs, but they just wouldn't work for me. I found out later that Home Depot had an in store comparison display set up, but I think you almost have to experience them in real life. So, it was really simple to just unscrew the incandescent bulbs and then screw in the LEDs. If it had been necessary to put in new LED specific can lights it would not have been worth it.

One guideline is square feet. 20 X Square feet= lumens. But since you have one fixture, you may not be able to get enough lumens. Perhaps buy an 8” led replacement that has the most lumens? You want an led replacement that will be a replacement for a fluorescent bulb.
