Is there an LED replacement bulb for this?

Hi everyone,

I have a Broan bathroom fan/light fixture (QTXE110FLT). It comes with a dingy CFL with a GX24q-4 base. The instructions say that any one of the following CFL replacement bulbs work:

G.E. F42TBX827A4P/EOL or F42TBX830A4P/EOL

PHILIPS PL-T 42W/827/4P/ALTO or PL-T 42W/830/4P/ALTO

SYLVANIA CF42DT/E/IN/827 or CF42DT/E/IN/830

NEMA Type CFTR42W/GX24q/827 or CFTR42W/GX24q/830

However, I hate that the light is dark and dingy in the bathroom until the CFL warms up. I much prefer LED. Is anyone aware of an LED replacement? I can't believe Broan still uses CFL!

Yes there are from various Chinese vendors using 3528 led components.

IMO, it would be wiser to wait.

The next best thing on the market will be an LED for bathroom applications that comes on slowly like a CFL so night time bathroom use does not result in a blinding experience. I've heard form a lot of people that they like this aspect of CFL in this kind of application.

Product cost is rarely determined by the price of what it's indiv. parts cost! Your car would cost around 3-6 times more than you paid for it if you bought it one piece at a time, then you'd have the labor bill for assembly @ $100 an hour. BTW , 600 isn't cheap, Lowes has one for around 150. It's not very effective or pretty................but it's cheap.

HI there. What does the $600.00 get you? That actually seems kind of high. I've been using LED under cabinet strip (3 foot, 4 watt segments at $55.00) with a 30 watt driver ($50.00). So that means you can do roughly 22 feet of under cabinet lighting for $435.00 (seven strips- 28 watts and one driver). And 22 feet is a lot of cabinet. As for the R30. If you're using that in a recessed light (5" or 6"), you might as well use the LR6 bulb. You can get it for $110.00 or so (you'll have to call around) and it will give a much better light. I've found that the R30 LEDs are still quite pricey.

Use lights like the Cree CR6/ 4 or Sylvania RT6/4 for recessed lighting. For A lamp devices, use LED replacement bulbs. Low voltage lighting does not make much economic sense for large scale home installations.

LED replacement bulbs for range hood?

I just replaced my incandescent range hood bulbs with LEDs ( Philips 465054). They work fine at the full brightness setting, but flicker slightly at low brightness. I'm not surprised, because I assume that the low brightness setting just puts a diode in series. Dimmable LEDs are (I assume) designed to deal with triac dimmers, where they get energy applied every 8ms or so. The half wave rectifier approach supplies energy every 16ms, and I suspect the bulbs don't have a big enough capacitor to hold up over that period. Anyone recommend an LED bulb that will work on the low intensity setting?

David, are you saying, yes, they are available? If so, do you have a link where to purchase? Why would it be wiser to wait?

Yes. See the link I provided above - you can either buy in bulk or in small quantities (1 - 2).

These bulbs are arrays of small LED elements (3528 or 3514 chips) arranged around a cylinder.

Yes, the lights are bright, but the lifespan is questionable.

It wouldn't be too long before the major players - Philips, Osram, Cree start making LED bulbs with different form factors and connectors other than the E26 or GU24 base.
