Hawk ID, and also wondering if this hawk may be injured?????
Comments (2)Thanks! So when do their tails get the reddish plumage? This one had brown striped tail feathers, I thought that the adults had red tails but I know very little about red tailed hawks so I thought I would ask, thanks! Oh, also, what's that whistling noise that it is making? There is a redtailed hawk couple that lives in my area, I used To see them Together all the time, now they seem to be hanging out solo mostly, I wondered if this one might be one of their "kids" from this year or year before, this one's plumage looks a lot darker than the male and female I usually see in the area....See MoreNeighbor's air conditioner makes a loud humming sound
Comments (31)This just happened to me. The sound is blaringly loud and low, and it woke me up around 6am and lasted for about 10 minutes. It sounds like it's coming from the apartment above, and it's loudest in the bathroom (no windows, it's in the center of my apartment). When it shuts off it sounds like a switch is flipped and it powers down quickly. It basically permeates my entire little apartment, but the sound is also really loud by the front door so it's hard to even say where it is coming from. I thought it might be a blender or something but it's not as loud in the kitchen. It drives me insane, only happens early morning so I assume my upstairs neighbor is using something that causes it. I thought maybe a shaver?!?! But nobody's shaver is THAT loud. Everyone talks about "the hum" and electronics, but this sound is so LOUD and coming from within the building. It's not coming from the windows....See MoreWhat hawk sounds like a pileated woodpecker?
Comments (0)I've been so excited thinking I had a couple pileateds on my property. I didn't see them very well, to really I.D. them. I was just going by the call. Well, I've also been seeing 2 hawks (maybe Coopers??), spending time around our house/property (35 acres). I think they have a nest. Well just now, I thought I heard a pileated and waited for it to come into view, and sure enough, it was a hawk. I love thinking they have a nest around here, but we have lots of squirrels who I also love having.......but I think they will be the hawks' main food. the other day I was looking out the window at a squirrel on the ground. Down swoops one of the hawks and lands right behind it.......then flies off. I don't think the squirrel even knew it was there, because it kept hunting in the grass. Whew......I know that's just nature, but I don't want to see it happen. Anyhow........do Cooper's hawks sound like a pileated? Thanks! I will try to get a good picture sometime, but they only seem to swoop fast....See MoreNew Laminate Flooring making a crackling sound throughout
Comments (4)SJ, Thanks for the feedback. See below: 1. The laminate planks were in the original factory wrapping and left in the area of install for 3-4 days. Not an issue I believe. 2. A damaged hardwood floor was removed and the adhesive was only scraped and not completely removed. Tacky enough to remove my sandals from my feet! 3. I was given no data on the flatness of the floor and was never told it was issue. 4. I was never given any data as to the gap. 5. The flooring was installed horizontally in my home to provide the shortest runs. Whether it is at the longest or shortest runs, there is still significant noise. Length of run doesn't seem to matter for the noise is throughout.. The vapor barrier used was 6 mil plastic. No cushioning was provided as an additional layer or adhered on the planks. 7. Yes, the adhesive was only scraped and not completely removed. 8. No attempt was made to "reduce" the adhesive other than the scraping 9. I have an Ecobee digital thermostat that measures RH and temp. Theses values never went or are now above what the contractor made reference to in our email correspondence. The contractor's "out" is that they claim to be in accordance with NWFA installation guidelines and that the NWFA has no guidelines for noise. One question that I have is with the adhesive that wasn't removed and I questioned compatibility at the beginning. As I understand it, the hardwood floor adhesives can be water based. Being so and without removing it or mitigating it somehow, can the moisture from the adhesive be an issue even with the plastic overlay? Any other information and insights are welcome. Thanks/Nick...See Morematthias_lang
