First Cecropia/Second Luna
Comments (14)I always figured the best time for any moth or butterfly to emerge in spring was when their host plant has started to make new growth, Tiffy. Big moths are only supposed to live about a week, so if they emerge too early, even if they manage to find a partner and mate, what would the female lay her eggs on? She could lay them on bare branches and maybe the eggs could last long enough in cold weather, but wouldn't it make more sense for her to be able to lay her eggs on new growth, which is what they like? So, I put my cages on the front porch when new growth has begun - if I were you, whenever that happens where you are, that'd be the right time. Dan, I saw my first female spicebush swallowtail yesterday, and I think I saw a black female tiger today - I know it was a big black swallowtail, so maybe things are starting to look up. The cecropia and the luna males both left - maybe I'll get a female moth soon. Sherry...See MoreMy very first indoor landscaping job!
Comments (8)maybe I need to rethink this idea. I don't want to get terribly involved and complicated! It's just one store. (maybe later, if other stores see the display and contact me, I'll get more into it. Almost every store and business around here has plants displayed) I think I'll just draw up a one-page contract -- "I put some of my own plants in, you don't touch them, you pay me x amount of dollars each month, I come weekly to inspect/address the display, you let me know 2 weeks in advance of wanted changes/removal, I do all changes/watering/feeding, etc" I should be able to tell right away if my plants are suffering in some way. The guy already said "we don't have plants because no one here knows what to do", so I don't think they'll touch them. Possibly we would even do a barter -- my display for a dollar amount of organic stuff from the store....See MoreGirl's Day Out and my first ever ...
Comments (17)Pattie, yes, fantastic. And you are entitled to have as many as you want, to cheer you along the path you are on now. And you know what? I have had the best day today that I have had in a long time. Yesterday was grocery shopping, which always wears me out, but by today I was even washing windows! Donna, you are lucky to have your own DD to do your tootsies. I am so grateful to have "my kids" around. My DD lives about 5 miles from me, and she does so much for me, and she won't ever let me repay her for anything, so I checked out first at the nail place and I paid for hers. HA! gotcha! My DGD lives about 30 minutes away; she is the "cupcake girl," and we had such a good time and the girls were so much fun, she went by on Tuesday and took them cupcakes. Speaking of paying though, the pedicures were only $20 each. I have friends who have a girl come to their house and do a pedicure, and she charges $45. And of course, she doesn't have one of those massage chairs. If you have never had a pedicure, do yourself a favor. Get one! Sue...See MoreMy girl dog won't leave my boy dog alone
Comments (13)It's not just dogs with the blankets! I have a cat who sucks and kneads the blanket and then starts humping it sometimes. He was abandoned when only a few weeks old and had to be hand-fed so I always assumed the sucking/kneading was a nursing thing but I don't know where the humping comes from! Poor thing has his signals confused, haha. My other two just knead things occasionally but that's it. All are neutered....See Moresultry_jasmine_nights (Florida)
