Here's a few pics of the enclosure I have it in. The top opens up plus there is another door near the bottom of the cage. I have the enclosure on the back screened in porch in front of the screen door. I am not sure how to go about "calling in" the wild males if its a girl or if another one hatches thats female...There's 4 more cocoons on the bottom of the cage as well.

Hi, thats a Male Luna, when a female hatches put her in the cage and let her call in a male. Its super easy, you have two options aswell. Either stay up all night(which is not fun when you work in the morning) or you can leave the doors open, and get up before the sun and check to see if they have called in a Male.

Thank you. Do you think I should release this male now? How long will he live? The others cocooned almost a week later than this one did so not sure what to do with this guy.

I would release him, they only live 5-7 days. Wait a week and the rest should hatch.

2 more have hatched now. One male and one female. I put the female out on the screen porch last night to call. I kept checking and no males showed up at all. Does anyone think its too late in the year for them to be mating? I dont know why else none would show up?

Did you release the male already? How did you get the Caterpillars in the first place?

I ordered eggs off ebay lol. They didnt come with any instructions so obviously I dont really know what Im doing except what Ive read online on various websites and some of it seems conflicting lol. Thats why Im asking so many questions here.

No I have a total od 2 males and one female now. I havent seen any mating yet so I dont think they will. I am going to release the first male tonight and maybe the other one as well.

It started raining last night and is raining again 2nite so no one got released lol. My oldest male is acting kinda weak now. Another female hatched out today. So now I have 2 males and 2 females. Still no gentleman callers though.

I never raised Lunas but I have always admired them. Maybe I will try some ebay eggs next year! Although I realize it is probably better to avoid inbreeding, if possible, are the brother males not interested in the females(?).

I dont think they are supposed to be interested in siblings. However I counted about 7 of what look to be eggs on the screen today. I thought the females laid hundreds of eggs so 7 seems odd. Maybe its something else but we just built the habitat and its brand new screen and theres definitely something on it.
