Chinas Or Other Repeat Bloomers?
Comments (18)I think Max had previously resolved to ignore some BS on 'Rose de Resht' in order to enjoy its wonderful and incomparably scented blooms - it's a very tough rose in spite of the disease, even if that's a fairly big problem. I don't know of another rose with that fragrance. 'Fortune's Five-Colored Rose' and 'Old Blush' have been consistently good here, with 'Cramoisi Superieur' showing obvious signs of blackspot (10-20%) in a fairly moist environment without really going under. Some others you might really enjoy include 'Bengal Fire', which might simply be synonymous with 'Sanguinea' (I'd love to know more about that - Niche Gardens sells the one I'm talking about, for clarity's sake), which can out-Knock-Out Knock Out any day of the week with its shockingly immaculate leaves all season long. It's almost worth growing as a foliage plants for those drop-dead gorgeous leaden leaves. Spice is another one with fab resistance to black spot. Japanese beetles tend to chew the flowers of most of these roses into tattered bits during the prime beetle season, but they haven't really done much damage to rose leaves around here. I would say that 'Mutabilis' makes their floral damage seem less obvious than some roses like Bengal Fire, either through sheer brute overproduction, or perhaps it's something about those twinkling colors, like some sort of macroscopic confetti, that utterly charms and fools the eye....See Moresome of my bloomers :)
Comments (11)Olya, you have a really marvelous collection and you certainly know how to grow them. That Su Fun bloomout is sensational. I really love the little Laelia and the Loog Tone cross is especially nice. Good catch on the 'flutterbys.' Marci...See MoreSome shots of my only bloomer...
Comments (3)It's an Aztec Gold with a strong peach smell. That is essentially a tree in a pot. Unfortunately, I'm probably going to have to cut it this year. Just too large to lug in and out of the house. A branch planted years ago from it is now almost as large. Both reliable bloomers. Other cuttings are from a tree in S. Florida (next to the source of the AG) that are white, but I've never seen them flowering down there. Looks like one is finally about to end the suspense......See MoreSome more from my latest gravestone photography
Comments (8)All my Flickr pictures are public, Lydia. Glad you're enjoying them! I usually go to a cemetery carrying a list of photo requests. If it's a small cemetery, I hope to find the requested gravestone on my own. I did well this time, but this doesn't usually happen. It helps to contact the cemetery manager. Quite often I suspect a very old stone has fallen over, or sunk, or become so smooth with age that the text is unreadable. So while I'm there, I wander around and take pictures of old gravestones at random. Then when I put them on my monitor I look to see if FindAGrave needs them or not. If the deceased person is not listed on FindAGrave for that cemetery, I create a memorial and add the photo. If a memorial is already on the website, but needs a photo, I add mine. If a memorial exists with a photo, I don't do anything with mine. Yes, I can think of two, possibly three, small cemeteries where I photographed every stone in the place. This time I found several stones that disagree with the information already posted for those persons on FindAGrave (different dates, different spellings). I'll contact the people who manage those memorials and point these things out to them....See Moremantis__oh
