In the spirit of the telephone book, keeping connections strong, perhaps you could take a nice photograph of the entire group and have that inexpensively framed for her new apartment.. I've see pictures like that where everyone signs the mat around the frame or you could simply have the date printed on the mat.

I like the idea too of a really nice telephone book as phones, so many put it all on there and then lose it or it goes and they have lost it all and don't know any phone numbers, nothing. And to have it in an actual book is great. But what I like even better is let the people put it in themselves in their own handwriting to really make it personal and yes a photo of everyone and framed; both would be a great combination gift. That way they have their personal information and picture of everyone too.

I think it's most unlikely that a person of this age would use a physical phone book. I say that judging by my three kids of similar ages, their worlds are contained on and managed by smartphones. The same is true for me and many other non-luddite baby boomers, to the same extent as for younger people.

Why not ask her mother for suggestions?

There really is no real need for a paper phone book anymore. I am way over the age of graduating from anything and have not needed or wanted a paper phone book in years. I know we once had one, no idea where it is now. What people have in their smartphones is most often backed-up in 'the cloud' so the info can be retrieved when a device is lost or broken.

If she hasn't been given one yet she may need a stethoscope.

I also nix the phone book idea. You have given her two lovely gifts to remember you by (and she always will -- every time she wears the pearls or the earrings). I think I would give her a cookbook from your area (Junior League ones are always nice) or if there is a nice or favorite restaurant that has a cookbook and you can write something nice inside and if it is a restaurant cookbook that you've all been to (or she and her family has) and she has something she really likes, then you can write something special on that page as well. If it's a Junior League one, surely there are at least one recipe that's close to something she's eaten at your house and you can write on that page. If not, you didn't say when she is leaving but you could make cookies form whatever cookbook you chose, write on that page, make them and send them along for her to nibble on the trip to her new home.

Do you mean an address book? Not phone book? If so, I like that idea! I have an address book in my desk with ALL our info in it. Aslo all names, addresses, phone numbers (cells, landlines, work), emails etc. of family and friends.

What about gift certificates to a couple of casual restaurants in Denver. It won't be the same as a permanent keepsake but they might remember that PK helped them find that great restaurant. And who knows, it may even become a favourite.

I like the thought of a collective personal gift. How about a book where each person writes a personal memory. congratulatory remark, best wishes, inspirational quotes, etc. and present them all in a binder?

One of best personalized gifts I ever received was from my girl scout troop. Each girl shared a special memory about her experience and how I effected their life as their leader. Very touching!

I wouldn't personally want an address book BUT if you choose to go that way, I recommend writing names in ink but putting address and phone numbers in pencil so they can be updated when people move.

I would like an address book, you never know that everything is backed up completely. If not, I received a beautiful gift for a memorable party. A friend took many pictures throughout the event, snuck off to Walgreens and had a DVD with background music made. Returned to the party and gave it to me. It was a huge hit, I will treasure it forever.

And, since you have given her pearl earrings and a necklace, add something in that vein. Is the string of pearls you gave here something that could accommodate an accent piece clipped on?

IMO a nurse will not wear a charm bracelet often. I am not sure what would be the best gift. The idea of a clip on jewel for the pearls sounds good...The term escapes me for the moment. I have a charm bracelet I wear occasion because my child bought it for me but otherwise it is sooo not my style. I just wouldn't choose that and who knows what another person wants...just a thought.

If you do a group picture, decide what size you will have it made and buy the mat to fit that size picture and have everyone at the party sign it -then you can frame it and send it to her.

But the info in a smartphone CAN be transferred even if the phone is lost, stolen, aged out, because people (especially young people) know to keep a backup. My smartphone contact list has been moved to different phones at least 5 times. So easy to update and add info like numerous phone numbers, addresses, birthdays, anniversaries names of children (and pets) etc.

Why not continue the pearl theme with a ring or bracelet? She will think of you whenever she wears any of the pearl pieces.

Regarding losing a phone, I could go flush my phone in the toilet right now and I would not lose a single contact. They are attached to my Gmail account.

It really is nice when I get a new phone, I put in my ID and I have all my contacts, calendars, apps, etc. No more taking hours to set up a new phone, takes less than 5 minutes. I'm sure most younger people do the same.

All my contacts are in my phone. On my SD card. And only in my phone. I'm not wild about having contacts in the cloud. Or anything for that matter. For instance, I have no credit card saved anywhere. I'd like the hard phone book. But what do I know?

A small decorative box--wooden--perhaps engraved. In the box, ask each guest/friend to write a goodbye/memory/good wish. The box makes a lovely keepsake and the wishes/thoughts can be cherished for years to come.

I, too, believe a continuation of your pearl jewelry theme by giving her a pearl bracelet would be very welcome. Someone mentioned that a nurse would be unlikely to wear a bracelet and that would be true that normally a bracelet would not be worn to work. However, her whole life will not be at work. She and her husband will probably have to attend formal functions occasionally so a grouping of pearl jewelry would be wonderful.

I have my mom's charm bracelet. It's full of charms commemorating events and places they visited and lived.

Yes I suggest keeping with the pearls if that is affordable a ring would require a size. There are add a pearl bracelets, you give it with 2 or 3 and she can add one a year or whatever or even other stones or beads etc.

Etsy has some nice gift ideas such as monogrammed stethoscope ID tags, RN charms, fun personalized nurse travel mug (you could tuck a refillable Starbucks card in there for long shifts), university nurse pins (have the school's name, graduation date, and RN), personalized stethoscope covers, fancy retractable badge holders, heartbeat necklace, etc.

What about a nursing care package containing things such as some good hand cream, some foot soak, a Starbucks gift card, high protein snacks that could fit in a pocket, a personalized water bottle or travel mug, nice travel size hand sanitizer, chapstick, bottle of wine for after a hard shift, a stress ball, fun lanyard or badge holder (depending on what her employer prefers), massage gift certificate, etc. I'm not a nurse so I looked on Reddit for suggestions from threads about this topic.

Both of the veteran nurses in my office said they would get something to carry papers in. Briefcase or pretty bag. They loved the second hand watch and pen idea. I happen to know the two most "borrowed" things (I won't name names, just say "MDs!!!!") are pens and stethoscopes. I have a friend who has a pink one my officemate borrowed. He. And she got it back pretty quickly. For that matter, I might suggest stethoscope, but those can be pretty pricey!

Update: I talked to her Mom last night and she suggested a gift certificate to a Denver based wine shop. The couple was in France in June and took a wine course and would like to start a cellar.

Now I just have to find a shop in Denver!
