Another milestone today!

Hubby and I are smoke free for 5 months now. We haven't had one incident of cheating and haven't gained any weight. We did it by going cold turkey, together. No patches, no pills and no vaping. Starting to see some signs of our bodies healing. Hubby is doing laps in our round pool now without my encouragement and sometimes more than just once and he's not winded when done. He goes around circles and creates this vortex. The current is so strong that I can't hardly stand in the water. Now I just need to get him to walk the opposite direction of the current for some serious exercise.

CONGRATS!! I smoked for a LONG time. Woke up one morning about 18 months ago with ZERO vision in left eye... like total blackness!?! After about 24 hours in hospital and lots of tests, poking/prodding... decision was NOT a stroke but something called retinal artery occlusion. Told people RARELY ever get vision back. Caused by some sort of blockage that apparently eventually made it's way to somewhere else. Wasn't surprised to be told high BP and cholesterol... have been on meds since. Doctor told me BP and cholesterol could be relatively easy to control with diet and/or meds, but that SMOKING was no doubt a contributing factor ... that's when I quit! Cold Turkey for me, too. Now smell that I no doubt brought into every room I entered is completely repulsive to me. If no medical negatives, would NOT turn down a cigarette RIGHT NOW, but I know I just CAN'T!

Kelly the vendor was Apodagis. I luckily got his last cut for this season. He told me he will have more next Spring for sale. Denise I take awful pictures. (That's why I never post pictures here in the forum. haha) There is one for sale in Ebay by Fatplant2020 right now for you to see. The variegated form shows the variegation on the newest leaves and as the leaf matures the golden color fades to lighter green on the leaves. So the mature leaves are a 2 tone green with age is my understanding while new leaves show golden. A friend I trade with here in Oklahoma also sent me 2 small rooted plants from his plant he had won from Fatplant2020 awhile back. (Hi Russell!!) The leaves on Apodagis plant are smaller so far than the plantlets from my friend. I hope both are different plants they came from and the leaves stay different sized. Time will tell. amyks ~ Thank you and what a nightmare it has been! Rattlesnakes, record rain, record heat, crazy subs, inept subs, back ordered and mis-shipped materials, the list goes on and on. Still, there is the joy of seeing something that previously only existed Âen potentiaÂ come to life and to realize that it will exist long after I am gone and no more than a footnote in its history. IÂll see if I can get some pics of the interior now that the construction dust is starting to settle. worthy ~ HavenÂt seen any big kitty tracks since that one time, but I am sure that they are out there somewhere. I just love all the wildlife that rambles through our little slice of heaven. The red-tailed hawks seem to be raising a family in one of the oak trees and the squirrels, rabbits, fishies and other critters are thriving as well. kats ~ Thank you. I feel like we are in this together to see who can get finished and moved in the soonest. Something tells me weÂll probably be unloading our moving trucks on the same day! *grin* HereÂs a photo of the house when it was nothing but an ICF shell. WeÂve come a looong way, baby!

Enjoy the ride and hope you don't hit a wall! Its a great when they put their children somewhere at the top of the list. Instead of doing things just to be spiteful. We are on an upswing with mom ... although I don't think I could "sleep with" his ex ... but things are much better now. The children are more relaxed .... we do not worry anymore when they are coming home what kind of meltdowns they are going to be having. :) Will it last who knows but as long as it does we will enjoy it.

Electric snow shovels have been around for years. I wanted a cordless one, and was waiting to get a Toro. There are other makes and models of course. My 80+ year old aunt just bought a Ryobi cordless shovel. Hers weighs 15lb. and is 30V. I think she paid almost as much for that one as I did for the 60V. She wanted hers especially so she could shovel an area out to and in the yard for her dog so it could do its business! lol Not sure how it will be on grass, but taking a chance. I hope to be able to lift mine up and onto the back porch to take the heavy snow off as it has no roof. I tried that out (sans snow of course) when I got home and I think it will be fairly easy when I get used to it.

Congratulations! I think cold turkey is the way to go. I also quit that way when my husband had a heart attack and I knew he would not be able to stop if I was still smoking. This was in 1980 and I was smoking almost 2 packs a day. My husband was only34 at the time and we had two young girls. Talk about incentive! We did it and sooooo glad you did also.

That is definitely a mile stone! We all profit from the cleaner air when people stop smoking so Thank you! I know from seeing my husband go through it how difficult it is to break that bad habit. Good work for anyone that has been successful in quitting.

Congrats! It just keeps getting easier and better as time goes on (we quit 9 years ago.)

I never had a cigarette in my life but I know how hard this addition is. You and your husband are to be congratulated. That's the way to go...cold turkey. Cheers for you.

Good job. Yeah, I tried it all...patches, gum... quit a hundred times for a week or a month or a day...but what worked is I just stopped smoking. It's not easy but so worth it. 8 years free of it here.

How wonderful, and even better to do it with your husband. Definitely one of the best things going on in your life at this time. And you won't miss the expense either!

Thank you all for your support. Hubby and I really didn't think we'd ever be able to do it and that's why we are so proud of ourselves. I post the milestones because to me it makes me feel that I am being held accountable and of course if I can help anyone else.

Congratulations to you both. I tried cold turkey and it didn't work. I did use the patch and kept cutting it down every week for a few weeks. I quit back in 1995 and still smoke free. I didn't quit because of health reasons, I quit because I was just tired of paying all that money to inhale dead air.
