Comments (4)There used to be an adage, "corn should be knee high by the 4th of July." Farming methods have changed that. Better seed, nitrogen additives, etc. This corn is only a few days from being picked. The folks who have this sweet corn plot do 4 plantings of corn. They sell beginning at 3:00 p.m. and sometimes are still picking when I get there and I have to wait. Comments (15)murraysmom, my mother used to parboil them just long enough to soften them up a bit. Then she would cut them in half, scoop out the squash meat and mix it with ground beef or pork, chopped mushroom, onions, bread cubes like the ones used in stuffing, a little garlic powder and salt and pepper. She'd then fill the shells with the mixture and bake (I'm guessing around 350) until cooked all the way through and kind of toasted on the top. They were delicious!...See More
