Spoon rests: show pix! On counter or outasight?
Comments (30)90? Huh? I'm just glad to see that TKO solutions are more or less the same as my old ones :) You all usually have so many clever ideas -- I'm still amazed at the towel pig, Mockett, and compost crock. I like the granite sample idea, pbris. This kitchen 99% done phase reminds me a lot of the Barbie doll outfit/accessory phase -- now that we have the perfect Barbie, how can we best accessorize her? playing around with all the different outfits out there :) I think I had a Barbie for about 10 minutes before deciding that I didn't actually care :)...See MoreShow Us Your Gardens - A photo Thread - August 2015
Comments (45)Actually no, the cucumber and summer squash seeds were not saved (by me) seeds, but came from an organic seed place, as I had not grown either in some years. It is interesting that many people have asked me what would happen if I planted the hybridized seeds. I have no idea what the answer would be! Actually hybridized mixes do occur the same year. The flowers need pollinating between their own flowers in order to develop fruits, and if pollen from another compatible species gets mixed in, the fruit will develop accordingly. My neighbor one year had a family of pumpkin/winter squash fruits that were the result of winter squash in his garden mixing with a hill of pumpkins accidentally sprung from Halloween pumpkins discarded the previous fall in a nearby weedy patch. They probably weren't edible but they made interesting curiosities on his porch railing that autumn! By the end of summer, my red, orange, and yellow nasturtium blossoms have always given way to many multi-toned specimens, as if nature took a watercolor paintbrush to them and painted streaks of orange on yellow and red on orange. When I plant the saved seeds the following year, the blooms revert to separate red, orange, and yellow blooms. These are seeds I've saved for some 8 or 10 generations now. It is remarkable how many sources on the web deny that cucumbers will cross pollinate with zucchinis or summer squash. All I can say is come look at my cucumbers with their yellow coloring and crooknecks, and tell me where, if not from their neighboring heirloom summer squash, these genes arose! Comments (43)Ariel, If me, I would leave alone for now. A few roots out the bottom is great. If you had a root rhizome, well that is different. When the pups are much bigger, I would still leave attached and re-pot into a larger container. Gold Hahnii, is possibly one of the hardest one to grow. You seem to have good luck with it. Being in a warm climate makes all the difference....See More'Spoons are so brutal!' Paris Hilton's cooking show, a comic genius?
Comments (10)Clearly she has some idea of how to make a lasagna. But, it would not surprise me if that was the first actual lasagna she ever made. Her technique was all over the place, doing everything out of order. I’m no germophobe, but what with the dog, the fingerless gloves and the hair (which did brush the lasagna sheets) no way would I eat that. Besides, it would be flavourless except for salt. I can’t believe she made such a thing (bottled water, geesh!) of blotting up the surplus salt, then goes through the cupboard and, “Oh, Himalayan salt- seven grinds of that”. And after she scratched up the frying pan with the metal spatula, I guess it’s just as well she can afford to replace it. You have to wonder what on earth prompted Ms Hilton to produce a cooking video....See MoreGreenLarry
