Comments (27)When I had geese, I never could bring myself to butcher them. They followed me around like I was their mother, and were particularly social fowl. I remember one Christmas my father asked my mother to please fix a goose instead of a turkey. My g'mother always had a goose for the holiday meal, instead of turkey like they do these days. She complied, but you could tell her heart wasn't in it. LOL. If it's the grease you want, they certainly have their share of it, don't they? My SIL's mother in England fixes turkey for the holiday meal now, and buys her plum pudding in. Travesty, LOL. She was amazed I still did a suet pudding on my own. In fact, one of my fav cousins asked me if she could come to my house before Christmas and jointly make the Christmas pudding because her family is grown and gone and she couldn't justify making one just for herself. Our family receipt makes one weighing at least ten pounds! We never got around to it since that is a busy season for me with my work, and my schedule didn't fit hers. But, I am looking forward to inviting her over this fall to do our home made minced meat, and this winter we shall be doing the Christmas pudding....See MoreOne of my favorites smells HEAVENLY. Pic
Comments (10)Hi MM! Happy New Year! Great pictures of your beauty!! Ya know, I have an arabian tea jasmine that wasn't doing diddly or squat for blooming for years! And so I started talking to it sweetly, petting its leaves, playing classical music for it, asking it if it would bloom for me, how I would be so happy if it did, sent it love and holy frijoles, it's blooming like crazy! It just finished a big cycle of blooming and I've told it I've got to trim it a wee bit so it doesn't get too huge. But, it's really listened to me! My gardenia put out a few blooms for me in the fall, but didn't like being brought inside in lower light conditions, sadly. The poor little bugger has some TEENY weeny flowers on it, but I guess I'm going to try to get it to bloom next year by bringing it inside earlier. It's still surviving pretty good (shhhhh!), I peed on it and it greened up right away too. If you haven't read it, try to get yourself a copy of the book "The Secret Life of Plants". I guarantee it will make you feel guilty next time you cut up a carrot or torture a potato in the oven! Also, my lemon has gotten two small lemons on it and also a bunch of flowers too. I'm hoping my blood orange gets enough chilling hours in our unheated attic this year. thanks for sharing the lovely pictures of your babies! Happy 2012!!! :D mersie...See MoreCleaning burned food smell & stain from microwave
Comments (6)I would try some vinegar and baking soda, put some on a sponge or dish rag, run the microwave about 1 minute at a time. The steam created should loosen the burned on food, the baking soda should absorb the smell. Then you can use the rag to clean it up with, just be careful, the rag will be hot, just how hot depends on the wattage of your microwave, and how many "1 minutes" you have run. If that fails you could try the old "Tupperware Party" trick for getting odors out of those plastic containers wad up some newspaper and stick it inside, close and let set for a day or so since you say its at school, you may have to try this overnight for several nights, or for a weekend. Hope 1 of these ideas may help. Ellie...See MoreFavorite Smelling Detergent
Comments (32)Pawprints, wow I must have really splurged on that detergent (Seventh Generation). I use it for a few things only, because I love the scent and want to make it last. So undergarments and sheets that don't get soil on them. The bottle states 3 enzymes, but as far as stain removal, I don't know. I don't get stained clothes usually. For stained towels, I use a powder like Persil or Miele for whites. Then add STPP and Oxi. They come out very clean at 140f or the sanitized temp of 158f. DH uses the hand towels to dry his grubby hands. He gets lots of ground in dirt and oil from farm machinery and daily farm chores. The white towels are stain free and WHITE. Non of my clothes have much of a scent when they come out of the dryer. I use 3 rinses always. In the wash cycle I have a touch of bubbles. Occasionally a bit more....See Morepatty_cakes42
