Comments (13)Oh geez...I feel for you. A year ago, my elderly mom put one of those rice filled neck bags in the microwave to warm it up. She accidentally set the timer for 20 minutes instead of two! My then spouse went to mom's house (I was buying a new car that night) and threw the microwave oven out in the snow- it was scorched inside. The next day, I got to mom's house and I could smell the putrid aroma from the microwave oven as I walked up the driveway. My mom has COPD and really suffered through the night, as the smell was as bad as what you described- like burned popcorn x 200! I washed down the ceilings and walls in the kitchen, the cupboards, table, chairs, etc. Basically washed down everything in sight. Mom went to a hair appt., so I opened all the doors and got a fan going. I rubbed a cloth with "Resolve" rug cleaner on all of her furniture in the living room that was fabric. I washed all the walls in the house, etc. Fortunately, she closed the doors to the bedrooms, so they were spared. I switched out the furnace filter, as well. I ran to Sears and bought a cheapie microwave oven. By the time I got back to her place, the house smelled 75% better. I put the microwave in it's place. Two days later, the place was back to normal. Sigh. I have heard about boiling vinegar and water in the microwave, but mom's was so scorched and awful and smelly- with her breathing issues, I just wanted it out of there. Good luck!...See MoreSelf Cleaning Oven smelling up the house
Comments (6)The oven could have been prettied-up anticipating the sale, which could involve oven cleaners. Can you describe the actual odor you're smelling? As most oven cleaners are based on lye, residues from their use would smell "soapy". If on the other hand the odor reminds of overheated electronics, it may be that the oven is not happy about the self-cleaning cycle and could even get damaged in the process. The normal smell during a self-cleaning cycle should be similar to incinerated toast :-) Anyway, during the procedure, you should run your hood on max and open a window somewhere to help replenish the kitchen with fresh air from outside....See MoreBurning Smell in Bosch slide-in induction range
Comments (3)Since nobody else has responded, I'll take a shot and maybe get the conversation going for you. I'd focus on that burned out oven light, especially if it burned out around the same time you noticed the odor. You haven't had the stove for a year yet. Bulbs sometimes fail in that short a time, but usually last a lot longer. Swap in the bulb from the other fixture. If it does not work, then the fixture has shorted out and maybe singed some insulation. Time to call warranty service. Otherwise, a fleeting tiny bad odor from the oven vent would make me suspect a little temporary something, maybe blown there by the convection fan from inside the oven or maybe a little bit of something greasy dropped/splashed/splattered from a pan on the back burner on the stove top.....See Morerachelneil
