What is your favorite detergent/softener and wash/rinse temp?
Comments (22)chuckwagon - Lots of reasons to use vinegar in the rinse. 1. It's cheap and effective. 2. It eliminates the soap residue. 3. Vinegar is too mild to harm fabrics but strong enough to dissolve alkalis in soaps and detergents. 4. Vinegar also breaks down uric acid, so adding 1 cup vinegar to the rinse water is especially good for babies' clothes. 5. To get wool and cotton blankets soft and fluffy as new, add 2 cups white vinegar to a full tub of rinse water. 6. Vinegar softens clothes without a bunch of harmful chemicals. Fabric softener is toxic. Softeners make clothes more flamable. For sensitive folks, the perfumes and chemicals can cause a plethora of problems (skin, breathing, etc.). Softeners make towels less absorbant. Here is a list of just some of the chemicals found in popular fabric softeners and dryer sheets: Benzyl Acetate: Linked to pancreatic cancer Benzyl Alcohol: Upper respiratory tract irritant Ethanol: On the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Hazardous Waste list and can cause central nervous system disorders A-Terpineol: Can cause respiratory problems, including fatal edema, and central nervous system damage Ethyl Acetate: A narcotic on the EPA's Hazardous Waste list Camphor: Causes central nervous system disorders Chloroform: Neurotoxic, anesthetic and carcinogenic Linalool: A narcotic that causes central nervous system disorders Pentane: A chemical known to be harmful if inhaled And don't think you are avoiding the toxins by choosing unscented brands of softeners/sheets. You're not. -Grainlady...See MoreDo you like or hate cilantro? & Whats Your favorite detergent?
Comments (61)Rosemary is an easy to grow herb, evergreen in warm climates. It's mainly used for fragrance and cooking with meat/beef/pork. There are two versions grown in my climate - the upright version we use for herbs and the prostrate version used for landscaping and erosion control. Unfortunately, the landscape shrub gets very, very large and attracts a LOT of bees. Since the vast majority seem to be planted around mailboxes, I'm sure mail deliverers would like to see them outlawed and eradicated, lol. Cut sprigs off rosemary and use them as garnish or stuff cavities of baked fowl, sprinkle on pork or use them in vases and sachets....See MoreWhat's your favorite song to listen to right now?
Comments (45)gs-I saw GVF in a smaller theater venue last month-and I just know that the next time they come to my town they're going to be in a much bigger venue. I'll pay the price for their tickets-I just love them. I was thrilled to see so many over 50's in attendance. Have you heard The Struts? They opened for the Foo Fighters this past tour and just released their 2nd album. Got to do a M&G with them this summer, also. They're very fun....See MoreShow us your one plant that you especially enjoy right now, this week.
Comments (71)North53, I received the lead plant from Lindenberg a few years ago and last spring my local nursery was offering them as well, though not again this year. I had been reading up on amorpha nana and would like to obtain it as well, where had you gottern yours, had you grown it from seed? Love the anemones, this one I find quite reliable for my short growing season and has wintered rather well for the most part. Anemone 'Serenade'...See Moresashanikki
