Prayers for Ashley please....
Comments (113)Well, she's made it to The Day. Well, The Day is actually tomorrow, but it's close. At the hospital at 5:30 am, she's the first "scheduled" surgery, that means it'll be afternoon before she's finished, out of recovery, allowed visitors, etc. Amanda was over yesterday and looks pale and tired, with big dark circles under her eyes. Her medication levels are still low, in spite of increasing her medication to the highest allowable dosage. So, after Maci/Kendall/whoever (grin) comes, I'll be pacing the floor until the September 30 neurologist appointment. Nothing happens quickly, I guess, and I'm such a patient person too. Ahem. Bud is spending the rest of the week with me while his sister is camping with "the other" Grandma, so Amanda can get a break, at least. Comments (59)Hoi An looks fascinating; I wish we had gone there. I bought mine in Saigon (oops, HCMC). You should have seen me pantomiming what I wanted to the hawkers. I'm sure I was amusing. But once I found people selling kitchenwares, a woman understood exactly what I meant (even though I sort of had it sideways) and went rummaging through a mountain of stuff -- I was afraid of an avalanche -- and pulled out a bundle of them tied together. I knew that was it; your description of a leaf-shape was perfect. It seems to be called a "dao bao." Here is a link that might be useful: article with a picture of dao baos...See MoreNew food safety rules on imported foods...
Comments (7)I don't buy imported foods, at least to the best of my knowledge. I also do not buy any mass produced foods, from Smithfield or any other company. I certainly do not buy ANY mixes or prefab box foods. This country is just as deplorable in their food practices as any other. I have talked with many a farmer who left the USDA way of farm life because much filth is allowed while the inspector is sitting there. Bad things are alowed in feeds, the farm conditions are filthy, and people think eggs are fine because they are run through disinfectant water full of feces. The cracked ones sitting in that filth are sold to go in cake mixes. Do you really think workers at a factory farm care? They don't. They don't care if a child dies due to contamination. Read some of Joel Salatin's books. They are an eye opener, and due to his wonderful sense of humor, a delight to read. We vsited his farm in Virginia last fall. What a wonderful place! A well run cattle or chicken farm, where the animlas are allowed to be happy animals and are rotated on fresh pasture daily, DOES NOT SMELL. At all. The meat and milk taste fresh and sweet. The cheese is not the rubber stuff the stores sell. Better yet, make your own cheese from local fresh milk. It's a fun past time. So if the masses want cheap food, buy it, and eat it, I don't care. It only exists because they don't care enough about themselves and support it with their dollar. Make a nice meal for family and guests out of pure basic ingredients, and a roast or hamburgers from a local organic farmer. If you're a vegetarian, make a nice lasagna from cheeses you made youself and sauce you cooked from scratch and simmered all day. It's some effort but make enough for the freezer and you have easy meals for other days. Serve them a cake actually made from scratch and not a grocery store or box. They will rave about your meal, probably over eat a little, and ask to come back soon for a visit. Smithfield? Yuck!...See MorePrayers for Ashley
Comments (94)add me to the list of well-wishers!! so sorry to hear all u are going thru, its very exhausting, mentally and physically., so take of yourself so u can take care of everyone else!! a friend of mine, her son of 19, had a stroke out of the blue...they still have no real reason for it. he was in a major hospital in the city (PA). he recovered 100%, was very lucky!!!!!!! he will be monitored the rest of his life. it really can happen at any time to anyone for any reason.... so whoever said up-thread, Health is Wealth, is very smart indeed. we always say "if u have your health, you have it all".... annie1992, my thoughts and prayers are with u and all your family, all the best!!! always love reading your posts, BTW :)...See Morerob333 (zone 7b)
