They do need some light but not direct yet in that heat. remember they can cook in a covered tray sometimes you may need to crack it open. I can't really talk about seeds mine sprouted but I did not give them enough water. I thought they were like bigger plants. Have fun watching them grow at first fast. Some one will come along and tell you when they can be moved to full sun. But not for now.

I like to germinate under a lid on my dvr, and as soon as they are up, they go full sun, with no lid. The lid then would kill them.

Honestly, the only three reasons I can think of not to go full sun immediately are; if you don't bury the seeds and plant on top as I do, they may blow away, you cannot control the weather outside, and you may get a hard rain that will unpot some or all, and if you have a lid over them.

Just remember that if you let them grow too long under anything less than Sun, that you will need to slowly acclimate them to full Sun. Do it when they have 1-2 sets of leaves, and you'll be ok - just watch for storms! I'm in Galveston and you guys seem to get a thunderstorm most days as of late.

I just germinated some seeds outdoor, they seems very happy, Lol, on a east-facing backyard , filtered morning sun and shade for the rest of the day. First three days I had them covered, then I was worry about baking them and took the lid off. Soil on top of the seeds need to be kept moist, so you'll have to spray them few times a day. Mine got dry few times but to my surprise , all germinated fat and happy:) I was wondering about day and night temp fluctuation, but I guess it's a natural thing and they did just fine! It's around 102F during a day and high 60s at nights. I can take pic tomorrow if you'd like to see, too dark right now. Happy gardening!

Sowing outdoors in full sun had only one drawback for me---birds. Otherwise it's perfectly fine. After all these plants in the wild don't run indoors to drop their seeds!

So I've got one 1-inch seedling, but the other three seeds are looking not so greatafter a week. I placed all of them outside on the east side of the house where they should get some sun but not be in the blazing heat. Crossing my fingers. Thanks, guys!
