Great pictures of plants. I am also trying to grow the same type of seeds. So far,not so lucky. They are too slow to sprout.

Sharon I sowed some last year, late spring (covered for 4 days), they started to sprout in 7days, temps were between 64F (night) and 78F (day). Maybe that would help. They are cute babies.

Sharon, hope you don't mind me asking you......did you soak the seeds for around 2-3 hours first then plant in moist compost that should never be allowed to dry out while they germinate? As you said they need warmth but ALSO light to sprout. The young seedlings should still be kept moist until they have put on some nice growth. It's a fine line between keeping youngsters moist all the while but NOT waterlogged as they are prone to rotting off.

Yes I soaked them in warm water with a dash of superthrive. It has gotten warmer today, and I see a double flower seed has sprouted. I have my fingers crossed.

I ordered mine from Thailand, I got them in about seven days. I was totally surprised they came so fast. It was hot and humid today, I have them in containers from carryout food with a clear lid. I see another is sprouting. I got a lot of seeds , just hope I can get them to grow , maybe not all one hundred but a few.

Wow Sharon....100 seeds!! You should get some good results from that lot for sure. My order arrived today, a measly 10 seeds in total lol!! They cost me ã1 each, so it was enough on my budget. They're Ad. arabicums which tend to be dearer than the obesums....what kind are yours? You must have got a good deal there?
I was late back from work so it was too late to soak and plant them today so it will have to be Monday after I finish earlier I guess...I can't wait! Both varieties have bigger seeds than the obesums, especially the Black Pearl which seems really big.
Considering its supposed to be summer our weather is abysmal just lately, its howling with wind, the rain is lashing down and the sun is shining low in the sky...the temp is 10c. whats gone wrong? I think I will definitely have to get the electric propagator out for these. I can usually get them to sprout in 4 days, but the last few batches of obesums have all failed...I think they were old seeds a different ebay supplier.

The seeds I got from eBay $16.00 for one hundred seeds plus free shipping. I just received arabicums and some double flower ones.. The double flower ones really sprouted the last two days. The arabicum have not sprouted at all. I only planted ten, so today I soaked ten more to see if they will sprout. They all floated, do you think they are ok? Always though that if they floated they were dead. I'll find out.

Thats a great deal you got there, real good value...I hope they start to sprout soon. Mine were very dear in comparison. 100 of my seeds would have cost the equivalent of 161$, no doubt hubby would have had something to say!
I mainly consider floaters to be dead, that said, I wouldn't give up on them yet. Will they sink if you push them under, sometimes they need a helping hand to break through the surface tension of the water as they are such lightweight seeds?
I also find it best to sow in batches as you are doing then if your conditions are not perfect, you have not wasted them all and can try again. Will be a bit more difficult for me though with 2x5 seeds!! lol!!
I have no idea if the arabicums are harder to sprout, my site says one of my varieties is easy from seed...we will see about that tomorrow when I'll be set for planting them after work.

All I know is that the arabicums are either really slow to sprout or are not going to. All other seeds sprouted by now. Not everyone has sprouted, at least 60-65% so far..not a one of the arabicums so far.

Sharon, hi there...I soaked the seeds this afternoon and after 2 hours or so they had sunk....I just tried two of each of my 2 types to see if any sprout. Will wait to see if they germinate first before I decide to try the others using the same method or try another way. I've read that some ppl soak and then sow between layers of moist tissue in a warm place. That might be a better method for me as I like to see whats going on!! So none of yours have come through yet, mmmmh, makes you wonder if they are slower doesn't it? Keep us posted please?

I planted the arabicum seeds after a long soak on the 11th of June. No so much as a sprout as of yet. The double flower seeds have all started to sprout. I might have to contact the seller for fresher seeds. Our weather hasn't been the best lately. Like the UK lately Haha.

Gill, those are great looking plants from seeds. I wish the adenium obesum grow a little faster. Don't you? Seeing your re-potting show off the caudex looked great. (they are so cute) I got many babies from seed this year too. I kept telling myself, no more seeds, but can't seem to staying away from buying more and more seeds.

Sharon, will be intesting to see what your supplier says re the non sprouters. The weather here is diabolical, its the summer solstice so our 'longest day' and its just been raining 'cats and dogs' as we say over here!! Now the sun is out and the roofs are steaming, very bizarre. Now everywhere is soaking wet and its put an end to my day in the garden for the time being...oh well.

Marie...I'm sure these fellahs have put on a considerable amount of growth in the past few weeks. I'll go on the other computer tonight and post some pics for comparison as I'm sure they are growing well. We will see! I too am a bit of a 'seed magnet' and have promised myself (and my hubby...yeah...lol!!!) that this will be my last attempt with adeniums as I have got really hooked on them. Hopefully I will get a couple of these arabicums to sprout as they are very different in shape to the obesums.

OK, I'm off to the g/h to see if any have started to sprout yet!! hehe!

The seller says to wait 3-5 days,if no sprouts,I'm to let them know and they will make good. I hope that means they will replace.

Can't post any comparison pics of the DR's earlier on in the year as the PC with all the pics on has gone sick with a dreded virus...aaaarrrrgh! Hopefully we can get it sorted soon.

So how are your seeds doing? Mine still have not sprouted from the arabicum species . It's about 1/3rd of the seeds seem to be sprouting.some are really slow,others sprouted right away. Oh well, I have nothing but time.I'll give them a few more days then contact the seller to see what they will do.

Sharon, Sharon!! I've just had a closer look at the 4 in the propagator....I moved a bit of the 'compost' and one is sprouting a lovely big root, woooohoooo! It's a Black Pearl arabicum thats coming up, or should I say going down!? I am so pleased and at least I now know the seeds are viable, so will hope the others do the same. It was just 5 days from the sowing on Monday afternoon!
Got 2 of each of the 2 types in there, 2 of each between wet tissues in a sealed take away box in the airing cupboard and one of each still in the packets as back-up.
I'll keep you all posted...there's a long way to go yet!

Great news!!! Now I know my seeds must not be good. It's been since the eleventh of June.and not so much of a sprout. Guess I'll be contacting Thailand and see what they will do for me. Baby the sprout!

Hi Sharon, just got in from work and checked my baby, and it's getting bigger by the minute!
Just a thought re your non-sprouters...have you checked to make sure the seed hasn't rotted? This happened to some of mine. I thought they were still OK as they looked fine from the outside, but with a very gentle finger prodding the whole of their insides squished out of the ends just like an icing syringe...lovely! They had got too hot and too wet I guess.
I'm sure you are too wise not to have done this to yours, but maybe it's worth a trying a couple of seeds to see if they're still firm and healthy. 14 days a long while for non to show, I too would be concerned.

No I have not checked the seeds. I just soaked, planted,covered a little ,put in the sun and sat back and waited for a sprout.even chased the sun around in my yard .my neighbors probably think I'm a little off, running around the yard with plastic containers containing dirt. Lol.

Hello Sharon, the one Black Pearl that had sprouted has now rotted. The weather was surprisingly hot and the temp inside the propagator got too warm so unfortunately I cooked it. I have since been keeping them a little drier and am switching the power supply off during the day. I had it set one hour one, one off as its not got a thermostat. I have done a 12hour standing shift today with no break so only took a quick peek at them on my return home tonight to see some others have now germinated!!!....I was too shattered to take much notice so will have a closer look tomorrow and report back as its now almost 11pm here. Hope yours survive...they are a real challenge!!

Hi Sharon, I checked out the seeds at 5am, couldn't sleep as its sweltering here!! Two more Black Pearls have popped, so that's 3/5 that have actually germinated...none of the 5 Desert Knight Fork have come up though. I will have to be extra careful to try and get these going, just one will satisfy me! The bigger the seedlings get, the easier they are to manage I am finding. It's such a fine line between them drying out or drowning. Hope for some others to pop obviously, so will wait with baited breath and will keep you posted.
So you also have Black Pearl too, what a coincidence.

It was high 90's here also, this morning not so bad yet. I just took the sprouts outside for sun.it has been three weeks or so and the black pearl has two sprouts today.they will be sending me a replacement .I will send you a few,I keep planting the ones I have just in case that they will sprout. But three weeks is a long time. My regular seeds I have sprouted ,some have two sets of leaves, some one set, some are just opening up .go figure. Sharon
