Comments (3)Thank you pondlily for an answer (: Do you think that the clearance is still between 30 and 36 inches if the gap is diagonally between the end of the counter and the opposite cabinets as ours will probably be? Yes, we are pulling out and re-arranging the 1970s cabinets we have because we are reducing our kitchen size to increase the size of our family room. We do have to do new countertops but luckily we got to save a large piece of butcher block - which will just fit over the 3 cabinets that make up our peninsula. We didn't plan this ahead of time. A series of events led to our spur of the moment, post thanksgiving dinner decision to start tearing up the kitchen. But despite this, it has all gone really well so far. When I pulled out the tile countertops (badly done DIY with cracking grout) it turned out that our cabinets are just little boxes on tall metal legs, almost like nightstands. They have been easy to rearrange. The tile on the wall almost fell off, as soon as I knocked out the bottom row with a hammer. There was a prep-sink where I wanted to move the kitchen sink to, and my husband discovered he has plumbing skills! So it's all working out, I just can't figure out which cabinets to put near the walkway. Again, I appreciate the help! This is my first attempt to post a kitchen layout and describe my problem, I know it's awfully wordy....See MoreNeed help with flow from kitchen to family room
Comments (3)It's a very open question. It would help to have her go through the different elements in the rooms and identify which fall in each of these categories Hate/gotta go Don't really like but would replace if I could afford it Indifferent/could live with it indefinitely Love/never want to change With an open-ended question, you are likely to get comments from people about what THEY hate and THEY would change, often without respect to budget. Since you say she doesn't like the yellows and greens, the fireplace wall seems an obvious place to start (the green looks truly awful with the rug). I assume that is a paint treatment, so it should be easy enough to paint over. The moldings look easy enough to remove if she doesn't like them. With respect to the paint chips propped on the counter, the cooler grays look like they work better with the counter: the two on the right, and the one on the left. If it's for the whole space, I'd go with one of the lighter colors. Though having noted how bad the green faux paint job looks with the rug, you should also consider how any new paint goes with the rug, not just the kitchen....See MoreHelp! Comments (7)I'm not clear on why you don't like this placement? To me, this looks ideal - kids zone at the end of the room with shelving and baskets for storage, TV on wall by windows with couch facing it. You have a nice set up for ease of conversation and looks warm and inviting....See Moreherbflavor
