Rain Bedazzled Blooms for Saturday

We had some welcome thundershowers overnight, and the blooms that survived the rain showed great color today. It also cooled things down in the early part of the morning.

Carolina Cool Down is just beginning to bloom

Sweet Child of Mine had its ffo today.

Shelby's scapes are taller than registered this year. The fence they are towering above is 48 inches.

Dick - Sure it was intentional! I have recently retired from teaching, so I guess I will need to keep better track of the daysl Isn't Carolina Cool Down wonderful?

Carolina Cool Down and your double clump picture are my favorite today. A few raindrops and an overcast day always make for great photos, yours are no exception. The seedling is such a lovely shade of pink.

I seem to have misplaced a day -namely Friday. These are Saturdays blooms? Well, whatever day, they are so pretty. Shelby always looks pretty in your pictures. It makes UF's look good. Odd how some of your dayliles have short scapes but it has taller scapes this year.....Jeannie Deaver's Dream looks great, but I really really like your pink seedling. Any good stats on it? You know how I am about pinks...........Maryl

As usual, your photos are fabulous! I couldn't pick just one, but Betty Louise Prince and Susie Tee are TDF! Love them both. My wishlist is getting larger than the list of dl's I grow. lol Glad that you guys are ok. The storm hit here around 6pm. There were tornadoes in the area and we had some hail and flooding. I'm sorry, David, I do not. I've been trying to remember where I got her from. I purchased her from a grower's internet listing about four years ago. I remember that I bought two other Chris Vizvarie introductions at the same time; "Jack and Josie" and "Rio Bonita". I lost RB, but JAJ, does well for me, as does "Born to be Awesome". I do not sell daylilies, but I'm happy to share what I have. Otherwise, you may try to contact Chris directly. I believe he still is hybridizing. In Region 11, I think.

Roi de Navare had much better color today. Tepin was planted in a spot where lots of weeds were growing, but it's looking better now. I posted a picture of Zombie Dust the other day, but it wasn't showing any pattern. Today it is. I think this one is interesting. Queen of the Garden is one I posted last season, but it never fails to delight. This is Sea of Cinders X Happy Holidays to You. It is actually a brighter red than the picture shows. I just couldn't get the camera to capture the real color. Of course, Bob was happy with this one. It is Bass Gibson X Spirit of Halloween. I like the eye on this one. It is Entering Warp Speed X Dr Jules Michael Vinkman. We just play around with patterns, and thought this one was neat. It is Time in a Bottle X Four Beasts in One. This is its maiden bloom.

Here is the royal court. The color on Apricot Symphony X Etosha is more rose in person. This is a possible future intro, I think this one is my personal favorite today. This is Bodacious Bite X (Wolverine X On Your Knees You Will Find Him). I don't know what caused all the splotchiness on this Unknown X Unknown seedling. I think I posted this one before, but it was nice today. This is Princess of Alexandria X (Sea of Cinders X Happy Holidays to You). This is one called The Jumble. Maryl - What? It's not Saturday yet. It feels like Saturday. I was wondering what happened to the usual Saturday shoppers at the grocery. LOL The pink seedling was a deeper shade of pink after the overnight rain, and more ruffly than I have seen it so far. The bloom is 6.5 inches and looks good at the end of high heat days.. Scape height and bud count are undertermined at this point. Last year it had 16 known buds, but a critter ate the buds on one of the lateral branches. This year it doesn't have lateral branches. Last year the scape height was 28 inches - this year 26-27. In part shade, it's a slow multipier - only three fans at this point.

well,I thought I had lost a day again. I am alwaysgetting my days wrong.cant keep up with days any more. I seen you had saturday and first thing i thought was, gee I sure thought it was friday.glad it was cleared up before I get back up to goooo see what is today.They are all beautiful blooms again.Just love them last two. both are soo pretty.

Love those overcast mornings, and I'll take rained-on flowers any day to drought. Your Jeanne Deaver's Dream looks good; it has never done anything here--smallish and no vigor. Are Carolina Cool Down's scapes normal?

Mantis - Carolina Cool Down's scapes are 5-6 inches shorter than normal. And its down on buds this year.

It is very nice. Judy Davisson does some nice things but they are sometimes hard to find. She is often out of things I am interested in. Sold out of Shelby and Carolina Cool Down.

Some great looking blooms. SHELBY certainly caught my eye and has been on my list to acquire for a couple of years now (along with several hundred others).

Biltmore Style is very pretty with that hint of white edge. Shelby is the one that really stands out for me, & to see how tall it is reinforces that. Lovely color on your seedling, it looks very pretty with the raindrops. I'm hoping this rain isn't too late for daylily flowers now. They have been getting smaller & smaller.

Dick, David and Nancy - Shelby was very slow in taking off compared to other Woodhenge cultivars I've grown. But this year it's really come into its own. I was shocked to see the scapes get so tall. In the previous three years I've grown it, Shelby has not achieved the registered 38-inch height. And this being a year of stunted scapes in my garden, its scape height was quite a surprise.

Nancy - I know what you mean about the flowers getting smaller and smaller. A lot of mine started out smaller than usual, and in those areas I don't hand water regularly, the blooms are shrinking.
