Comments (67)Houston..Guess what? I felt the same way about my figs! I had a couple and they are not as sweet as many rave them to be to me, and I let them fully ripen. I was told the older the tree, the sweeter they get. Oh I hope so. Mine are only about 2-3 feet tall. I hope someday to get a VERY sweet one. Keeping my fingers crossed. You can have the cooler weather.lol It's depressing to wake up 5 days out of the week with cloudy skies and temps below normal. I get enough of that in the Spring, Fall, and Winter. Our summers are shrinking while just one state away they are boiling. Strange I'll say! Protect your trees for sure in that. I hope you have a pool. Josh! Well, would you look at that! Holding back for one of the best? Very very nice. Will you be separating them anytime soon or let them grow together like a mini forest? They look pretty good together like that. Are you growing them for fun, or for eventual fruit? I love them. 46 degrees! Well, I thought my weather was cold. You must still use some source of heat for those cold nights, or at least put the windows up. Wow. Well, I can understand why certain plants may be an issue for you there. My weather is much warmer than yours, but still I have a problem with some of the plants you mentioned too. But despite them odds, what you grow still seems to relish in your care. Good work. 68 this a.m. and light drizzly rain. It's breezy and feels like fall. I think our hot summers of past have all but disappeared for good:-( Mike...See MoreWant to share your front yard garden pics?
Comments (5)Yeah, I wanted to but not really sure how to do this. But I am going to get a landscaper to come to my house and give me some ideas. It will cost a little money, but in the end, he/she will be able to really fill in the spaces well. I just don't know what I am doing! HA HA HA! Check out the whipcords on google. They are something that is just so different and hard to describe. They are new to this area and I have yet to see one in any yards. I hope that it will create a conversation or two with the neighbours....See MoreIt's Halloween....share your scary gardening stories and creature pics
Comments (10)My scary story involves being a Florida gardening neophyte and not realizing that everything I planted was going to either get huge or run everywhere! Bamboo that was supposed to be Golden Goddess, but it isn't. When first planted and second photo from a couple years ago--bamboo stalks are even larger now. I planted this clerodendron from a tiny pot from a garden club sale. Now it has spread itself all around, 30 feet from its original plant. I am chopping down suckers everywhere. I planted a blue clockvine on a trellis. It got huge and died back in the frost, leaving ugly black leaves and bare stems, so I dug it up and threw it on the side of the lot. Now it covers all the scrub growth for quite a distance. I love the Dombeya seminole I planted, but now it covers up everything else--under its spreading branches are three roses, a bird of paradise, two pineapple plants, and several crinum lilies. But it's just starting to bloom, so how can I prune it now??? To the right of the Dombeya is a Carolina jessamine--climbing into the gutters. How was I to know it would get so BIG? I have several other examples, including a fern a neighbor gave me that is spreading everywhere, a Calliandra powderpuff that got huge and has to be put back every year or the neighbor's yard disappears under it, a coral honeysuckle that got so thick it collapsed the trellis it is growing on .... Comments (141)I got an email notification about this thread. I had forgot all about it. It’s nice seeing the colorful plants this time of year My plants never colored up since we when from warm days to freezing temps. Maybe next year. I do want to thank Mike for sending me the cuttings! They are amazing and truly appreciated. They’re all cramed into my only decent southern window. Sorry for the poor picture...See Moreaakajx
