Comments (68)We had pretty good year for color here. The Maples were better than last year (which was also good), some of the late rubrums are just now coloring up nicely, but most of the Sugars are bare or nearly so. Oaks are coming in nicely. The Scarlet oaks look good, pins are above-average. N. Red not as good as last year,White Oaks a bit more russetty vs the pinkish tones of last year, but overall looking good. Most oaks still have quite a bit of green but are turning quickly now. The leguminous trees in general colored quite well - Redbuds, Yellowwood, Honeylocust, even Black Locusts that didn't get defoliated by the locust leafminer did well. I saw a few Gymnocladus that colored nicely too - all good yellows. Hickories were great as usual, still hanging on but now more brown-yellow than bright yellow. The Liriodendrons are mostly all but bare but some yellow still hanging on. Baldcypress now coloring nicely, but my Dawn Redwoods as well as others around are still entirely green, but I expect them to color up quickly here in the next week or two. We haven't had a freeze here yet, believe it or not. Sunday night was supposed to - we had clear skies and dewpoints in the teens, but a stiff west wind kept the air mixed and we only got to 35. This weekend might freeze though - Saturday looks clear with highs in the mid 40s....See MoreColorful Jades! Please. let's see yours. Some of mine. Pics

Comments (58)Good Afternoon, Ladies and Gents! Josh, thank you. Will your Jades keep color over winter? Your Skinny Fingers is extremely red. Btw, is Skinny Fingers, Hobbit or Gollum? I still get the two mixed-up. :) A few posts below, you posted a photo of your Hobbit. You wrote 'mother and daugher.' Is daugher attached to mother? If so, will they be together, or removed to form a tree-shape standard/solo trunk? You also wrote, 'another beautiful day in northern CA.' What were temps that morning? One more question. :) You said, 'Hobbit in the light of the rising sun.' Are Crassulas in an east window? No more questions...Not at the moment anyway. lol Rob... I had no choice but to leave Jades outside when temps dipped below 32F. So far so good, however, during the day, temps are between 40-50F, nights 29-34. They're predicting 60F from Tues-Fri, although like you said, weather doesn't listen to the forecast. lol. Think I'm going to place a small table on the front porch, set Jades out during the day, then bring in at night. Today, the third of Nov is the first day we've had actual sun! If you've ever seen The Wizard of Oz, picture the twister scene. Remember the sky and wind? That's what the last 5 days resembled. :) Kuroc. Patience is the key..it seems some Jades grow faster than others. Your Jades will soon be tall and wide, then you will not know where to set them come winter. Mike, thank you..Tidy? You should see the mess after a windy day/night.. Or when I'm cleaning, and plants do the domino thing. lol. Toni...See MorePlease show your colorful jades or your favorites! 2017
Comments (65)Hello guys, thanks to Nancy and a couple of other good friends, I was told to take a gander over here and I will take an updated pic.....It is full of color this year after it flowered...I will be back soon with a pic)))) I am thinking many here don't know why it's called the 'Mother Jade'? Because at one point years ago when one ever saw it, many didn't know the name after giving out dozens of cutting around this forum, and so many decided that should be the name... Mike...See MoreKatherine (SC 9a)
