Why have my plants stopped growing?
Comments (5)From your description my best guess would be too much water and subsequent root rot and the purplish -yellow tinge would seem to confirm that. The purple is common with young seedlings that are too cold or too wet and the yellow is usually a sign of too wet. 1 hole in bottom of the plastic cup isn't usually enough. They are easily plugged with soil. I always put at least 5 holes in the cups - 1 in the center and 4 on the edges so that they cut into both the bottom and the lower side of the cup. That way you can be sure they can drain adequately. Next best guess would be the potting soil - which MG? If it was MG Garden Soil then that is your problems as it isn't meant to be used in any sort of container and says so on the bag. It compacts and won't drain. Has killed many a seedling according to posts by others. Last thought would be that your plants got so tall - not a good sign - because they were starved for light right after germination. That is why most of us use fluorescent lights - widow light just can't cut it this time of year. When you transplanted them did you plant them deeply to just below the leaves, burying the too long stem? A long lanky stem doesn't have as good a circulatory system so difficulty supplying nutrients. Does any of this sound like a possibility? Dave PS: also what and how much have you fed them?...See MoreYellowing leaves in Jade plant Crassula tetragona
Comments (4)I've been trying to determine what was wrong with this Crassula tetragona since May. Had suggestions for drainage, potting mix, sunburn, etc., but not one person suspected pests. I never could upload the photo to this post in June, but there is a later photo of the damage in a post titled "What's the funk on my Crassula tetragona" in the cacti forum. Mites aren't visible. I couldn't see them even with a magnifying glass. I needed the macro lens of my "real" camera, then I had to enlarge the image. It begins as yellowing of leaves for no apparent reason. Old leaves are mostly affected, but newer leaves sometimes also. Leaves drop. Some shrivel. People mistake it for over-watering, poor drainage, sunburn, etc. As it progresses, leaves look textured with tiny indentations about pin pricked size. Leaf surfaces get what looks like a brown or black coating, stain, or discoloring. Plants continue to grow and produce more leaves and branches, but eventually only those newest leaves remain healthy. That's where my plants are now. I can save them, but it'll be a huge setback. Worse, they've been in contact with all my other plants, shared a water bucket, etc., so I'll be treating a lot of plants. Hopefully, this mite doesn't thrive so well on other plants....See MoreSo Why Did I Stop by Produce Junction...
Comments (8)I live near there! My crisper is usually not big enough for the veggies I buy there, LOL. bluetarski, it's like a little market where you can buy fresh veggies, fruits, and sometimes plants, flowers, etc. You stand in line and pay cash only. Not organic but local and usually cheaper than at the grocery. I'll try to put directions in the link. Here is a link that might be useful: Produce Junction on google maps...See MoreWhy did all the leaves fall off 1 of 2 of my newly planted rose bush
Comments (25)Yeah that sounds like a good idea Sheila...I never thought of something like that? How do those work exactly? And Seil I didn't plant in cardboard as in 'packaging the Rose came in' I mean I had moving style boxes I broke down and then I wet them down really good to put under mulch along the slope to deter weeds. I made sure to leave about 5" or so around each plant bare with a little mulch. I did however leave the soil on it when I planted, I didn't try to make bareroot? You think that could've caused it? I just want to know how to save these ...also it rained last night...not sure how hard because it ended at least an hour or two before I woke up so when I stuck finger in soil down so deep that I had no finger left! It felt pretty moist all the way down...but idk how much rain feel so idk if that could happen from the rain we just had overnight? And today has been overcast with next to no sun all day..so sun wasn't out to dry it out....See Moreewwmayo
