Comments (9)Hi Jim, Yes I do still want some black bamboo. I'm wondering if I should dig up the hosta to divide now or wait until the end of the month? If I did would it be safe to put the roots in a brown bag and store them in the shed until the swap? Kendal...See MoreSum & Substance--my first hosta
Comments (5)My S+S planted at our last house on a hillside got so big our yellow lab could stand up under the leaves !! Suggestions for biggest growth are to add alot of rich compost to the soil upon planting, side dress with compost as the summer goes on, and keep it well watered. S+S can take a decent amt. of sun too, ours was in full sun for about 2-3 hours, then dappled through the trees for the rest of the day. At our current house, I have one planted in a tall vase-shaped planter and I hope it will arch out over the top of allthe other hostas in that bed, underplanted in the container is creeping jenny, which spills down the sides of the container. This year it should do very well. Will take pics as season progresses ! Best of luck with your first hosta, it WON'T be your last :)...See Moreunusual sum and substance
Comments (24)I'm going to say that whatever it is, is likely not diseased or mutated...it's exactly what it's supposed to be, and exactly what it's supposed to look like at it's age. (How's that for a non-answer!) Whether you can be confident on what this young plant is has more to do with how much you trust place you bought it from. Despite what it is or what it might be...and you'll probably make better conclusions after a few years in the ground...I'm curious what the roots and crown look like on this once you take off the pot and remove the soil medium. I can't see the soil level...I can interpret and assume a few things...but I can't see how high (or low) the crown is in relation to the potting soil and in relation to the leaves. It looks to me like...whatever it is...and it does look like a S&S...is a fresh, young division off a mother plant this season...pretty recent, in fact...and sets in the pot really low/deep because the person who potted the division planted it deep. Comments (10)Eola Blue Sapphire (the most beautiful big blue ever) ask Ken if you can see the photo of his. Mississippi Delta (a giant green with leaves as big and round as dinner plates) Elegans (for sure, such a beautiful powder blue) Tiffney's Godzilla (huge with gold edges) Big Kahuna (gorgeous gold centers with wide green border, and very, very large) Big Daddy (oh, the intense puckering and fabulous blue) Blue Mammoth (Huge, blue, the leaves look like elephant ears.) And that's just the tip of the iceberg... Lainey...See More- 7 years ago
