Accademia Museum after breakfast. We went to the Uffizzi the day before, but I did not take photos of breakfast that day, although I do have photos of lunch we had there.

There are things on this camera that I can't even figure out what the settings are FOR. I did figure out how to make pictures black and white instead of color, but there's a "color swap" setting that I can't figure out no matter what I do. And why would I want to swap colors anyway? Heck, it took me 2 hours to figure out that this camera has a switch on the front (back?) that lets me review pictures, I couldn't figure out how the heck to see what I'd taken! For 5 BRs, it seems fairly competitive, but it only has 2 BRs which is actually not very many considering that one is probably the MA and the other would have to be used for all other BRs and the FR, DR, LR, etc. I would bet, knowing Mill Valley, that the layout is a bit wonky. The house is probably fairly old and has been added on to, making the layout somewhat less desirable. For most of the nice Towns/Cities around here, things are priced at about $1,000/sf, so this does seem underpriced. Comments (20)Nik, yes, it is a found rose, so no known lineage. Here's a link to a long discussion about it two years ago: "Florence Bowers' Pink Tea", with speculation about it being the "true" 'Souvenir d'un Ami'. I do hope you hear from Mrs. Bowers, Jeri. Garden web member "idixierose" tried two years ago and did not hear back, I believe; she did say Mrs. Bowers was in declining health. humble5, the scent is very strong to me, and like the incomparable fruity scent of Mrs. B.R. Cant. She got healthier in the ground than she was in the pot, but I think the time in the pot was important for building up good roots. She's at the edge of the "civilized" (i.e., irrigated) part of this garden in so-so soil -- all the stuff behind her is my "multicultural chaparral", which gets no irrigation....See MoreLars
7 years agolast modified: 7 years agoCrowds were tolerable, but I understand that they get worse later in
June and then also in July in August. We did not have to wait in any
lines more than 10 minutes, restaurants were never full, and traffic was
extremely light (by L.A. standards). The coliseum was a bit crowded,
as was the Uffizi, but there were still moments when we were practically alone or there were no people around us. Nothing else was crowded, except for the piazza in Florence with the cathedral, that I can think of right now. Even when we went to see David at the Accademia, there was essentially no line, and the crowds were very manageable. We did not have to wait in line to see the David statue - we just walked right up to it, but there is little else in that museum.Empty lines at Coliseum, protected by soldiers.
Open space inside Coliseum, main level. (Upper level was a bit more crowded, as you can see from the people at the second level.)
Trevi Fountain (Rome) was pretty crowded.
Piazza Navonna, not so much.
Kevin at Pantheon - no line at all to get in, but quite a few people inside.
Fontana Del Tritone (Rome) - view showing the street (ahead and off the the right, I think) where we went shopping, and Kevin bought nice shirts. I was going to buy some Italian linen, but it was 75 Euros per meter, and if I bought enough to make a shirt, it would cost $200, and so I declined.
All of these photos are from Rome; I'll show Florentine crowds later.

7 years agoI did learn to start the toast first because the first day I started some toast, took my plate to my table (in the next room), and when I went back for the toast, it was gone. Kevin started putting cheese on his toast after buttering it, but I only put cheese on it. I did not think to put prosciutto on the toast first, but that is a good idea. However, I was more in love with the Mortadella.

Visited Il Duomo in the morning and then had lunch here. The back door to Eataly Florence was on the way.
I want to do a post on Siena, which will definitely feature food, but it will take me a while to edit the photos. Siena is quite charming, and when I look back on all the photos, I want to visit all of these places again. I hope it is not a once in a lifetime event, but I'm glad I had it at least this one time.
