6 month bermuda before and after. Still looking for some final tips

Short story: I bought my house in October (in ATX) and the lawn was pretty much dead and weed infested. I have brought the bermuda back to life mostly using the bermuda bible, but I still feel like I'm missing some things. Before is backyard and after is front but they looked and currently look identical.

I have to cut it at 2" because if I go lower almost the entire yard is brown. I would like to go down to 1". Is there a best practice for that?

Also, I'm noticing brown stems sticking up in the after picture. This is really obvious after I mow...which the after picture was from. I don't think it was from lack of water as this past month it's been raining a lot here in Austin.

Last thing. In the center of the after picture there is nice spot of lush thick and dark green grass. Are there any cheat codes to get the entire lawn to look like that and get that dark green?

Here is what I'm currently doing...

- Mow once a week at 2" (would like to do this at 1". mowing more often isn't a problem) - Once a month milorganite

- Once a month 2,4-d however I stopped doing this lat month as im not getting alot of weeds anymore and it's starting to get really hot here.

- Water 1" weekly (except for the past month where it rained every other day)

Other info:

- bermuda (not sure on specific kind, but probably some cheap builder kind)

- Austin Tx (specifically Manor, Tx) - Sod was laid last year in Oct so it isn't a yaer old yet. I do plan on aerating and overseeing with rye come this winter. I couldn't do it last winter as I read that the lawn needs about a year to estgablish.
