Found sprinkler heads in yard. How do I get them to work?

There are two sprinkler heads that I have found so far in my small back yard. They say Toro 570 series. How do I get them working? I don't see any kind of box so far. If the box was removed are they expensive to get and set up? Any other suggestions or advice? Thanks! :)

There is quite a bit more equipment in a sprinkler setup. You say you dont have a box. Do you have a pump somewhere on your property connected to a well possibly? Do you see any piping attached to a spigot outside? Depending on what kind of system they had setup you may have some buried solenoid valves somewhere that would control the separate zones.

Again, depending on what type of system you could have had there in the past you would be looking to install a controller, solenoid valves, piping from valves to heads, piping from a water source somewhere. There are MANY variables.

If I were in your shoes, and REALLY wanted to get this figured out, I would start digging. That is really the only way to get this solved. Once you find out what you have, then you can go from there...

As far as cost it depends on what your end goal is. Watering a small yard, watering a garden, or watering a large yard. You could pick up a relatively cheap setup, from your local hardware store, that attaches to your spigot and runs to a sprinkler head. These usually have a controller and valves built in. Orbit makes one that is popular.

The other item you would need to think about when doing this is the amount of possible heads you have hidden, and what water pressure/ flow rate, the whole system was setup with...

Sorry there is no easy answer. Again digging will be your best friend, if you REALLY wanted to solve the mystery. Just go slow and be cautious as to not rupture a piece of piping.

I feel I have found the correct installation which is the cure to hold the Donuts in place (w/o any downward pipe as 1st attachment). Ã¢ÂÂFinallyÃ¢ÂÂ the 2nd attachment shows the Donut is put in place before the Pop-UpÃ¢ÂÂs head is screwed on. Ã¢ÂÂMost HeadsÃ¢ÂÂ holds the Orbit Donut in place and was found in a review vs any instructions. This makes since except for the Pop-Ups heads 2-3Ã¢ÂÂ below the ground. Those Donuts stay in place due to their depth to the top of the Pop-Ups. Plus, they are dangerous if accidentally walk on. It was hard to believe the local Installer that services the system felt the 2-3Ã¢ÂÂ deep (below ground) did not need couplings, Etc to raise them to ground level.

Hi jaansu, Usinf the existing head and fill with epoxy glue so that all the holes are plugged. You might have to tape the outside with masking tape. Make sure you don't get any on the threads. Use teflon tape or plumber's pipe dope on the threads before screwing the head back on. I have never done this but I know from past threads the blank off head is hard to find. You'd be the first. If you are successful start selling them on ebay. Aloha.

Thanks for the response. I've read negative things on rototilling, tearing up the soil in an unnatural manner, that often can then lead to later over-compaction. I do think it might be simpler to wait for the lasagna method to finish its chemical reactions that amend the soil before planting, and I've seen that approach on YouTube. But our LA County planting guide says we can just plant immediately if we like, and I've also read this on the internet. We have a window of time for this, and we are trying to get it all done by mid-January, including planting. I will double check whether we will actually need ongoing drip irrigation in the long-term, or whether the plants will be fully self-sufficient once they are established. In the former case, we'd probably spend more time putting in a good automatic drip system, in the latter case maybe we would just hand-water or something till the plants are established. How do I get rid of swarming bees in my yard?

Generally, swarming bees do not attack, because they have nothing to defend (no honey, no children). However, I wouldn't try to remove them without a beesuit. I am really surprised that none of the local beekeepers want to help you. Geez, that's a real drag--certatinly wouldn't happen in our neighborhood. The bees won't stay in a clump on a branch for very long--they will try to find a real home within a day or two, so you can just wait until they leave. Unfortunately, they may decide to move from the tree to somewhere in your house, which would make the problem go from bad to worse. So, what's to do? Well, by any chance do you have a bee supply place locally? If so, you could purchase a standard beehive box, and put them in there. Or, you could put them in a box of some sort, and take them out of town. To move them at all, however, you'll need to either buy a beesuit, or figure out some way to cover yourself completely. Some form of netting over the head is essential--if bees are going to attack (not likely in this case, but there's no sense taking a chance), plus long overalls, leather gloves, workboots and trousers with the cuffs taped shut. That ought to keep you save. Hope this helps.

Thank you for the response. I actually did dig some. It's just difficult cos I have a small yard with tree roots everywhere. The 2 sprinkler heads I did find have stuff around it. One is against the wall and fence. So there's wiring and rocks to dig around. The other one is further down along the fence too and there's tree roots and rock. I did find part of a pvc pipe that just came right out. Maybe 6-8 inches with a slant cut at one end. My yard is small and I only planned on putting grass on the side of the yard where the sprinklers are so I wouldn't need much pressure.

I'll keep looking and maybe see if my husband knows anyone that can help us so I don't break anything lol :D
