Gap in frameless shower door -- this is wrong, right?
Comments (5)Is this the gap between the non-hinged side of the door and a glass wall it abuts? I know we had a had time getting that gap close (which was how I visually wanted it) and we did so by adjusting where we hung the hinges, since ours is an angled installation. I did not want to use the silicone gasket/stop piece, and wanted a fairly small opening there. We installed it with maybe 1/4" space. But now I wish we hadn't!!!!!!!!!!!!! For whatever reason (house settling, whatever) the top edge has moved in just by a teeny bit, but it's enough, in our installation, to make me really nervous that the two glass edges are going to touch and shatter. So, now I have to keep a small 2" piece of the gasket/stop stuff up there to make sure that doesn't happen:( So what I am saying is: they probably left plenty of room for the gasket thing. If they didn't specifically know you were not going to use it (since its optional) they would have had to leave room for it. Sounds like they left a little TOO much room though. Hopefully they will make a bigger door for you--- but please just take my advice and don't insist they make it so much bigger that you might have my issues in the future. Leave a big enough space there. I think about 3/8" would make me comfortable, and still look great. Just my 2 cents from our experience!...See MoreCan I have a frameless shower door opposite the shower head?
Comments (13)I don't see anything in either code that prohibits it. P2705.1 of the IECC Residential code (2015) doesn't appear to mention it at all, and the UPC 412 (from 2018 at least) is about Urinals (whether or not a shower constitutes a urinal if you pee in the shower is out of scope of the UPC). :) UPC 408.9 mentions it this way: "Control valves and shower heads should be mounted on the sidewall of shower compartments or otherwise arranged so that the water does not discharge at the entrance of the compartment so that so that the bather can adjust the valves before stepping into the shower spray" So nothing to do specifically with the thing pointed at the door, moreso can you turn on the water without being sprayed by it, which is a good idea anyway since that first blast is likely to be quite cold....See MoreHeight of Frameless Shower Door? Comments (2)When I had the shower door guy out to measure, he made a point of checking how high the shower head was. Ours is on a sliding bar, so it can go up pretty high. We have a 6" curb and a 6' shower wall/door height, and it is fine with our standard 8' ceiling. Our "gap" is 18". Remember also that this "gap" benefits the air circulation in your shower to help dry it out so that you don't get moldy grout. Unless you have a very high shower head (very tall shower user) you should be fine....See MoreProper frameless shower door gaps
