Using Sand to Fix Clay Soil

I wanted to share how amazed I have been in the last few days, we got a load of coarse 5mm sand and have been mixing it into the heavy clay soil. It instantly broke up the clay so it cannot clump together anymore.

I wish I had done this sooner, especially before planting all these roses. Peat moss seemed to work at first, but not in the long run; beds first mixed with peat now are back to clumpy clay two years later.

What kind of soil is everyone working with around here? I noticed it can vary a lot depending on location!
