BM Manchester Tan update

For those who didn't read a post from a while ago. a contractor color matched BM Manchester Tan with Home Depot for our daughter's studio apartment.

This apartment does have different light than the previous one where we used BM MT and were very happy with the results.

I knew as soon as I saw it, it didn't look right, but chalked it up to different lighting, live and learn.

Research told me though that BM MT could work in low light.

MY DH, who was working with the contractor saw how I disappointed I was. Especially after learning he color matched it with HD.

Was luck would have it, there were some issues with a wall and so the room had to be re painted. DH made sure to get the BM paint.

Clearly, this now looks more like the color I had hoped for. Yes, slightly different than one with more light, but more than acceptable.

There were those who said, it wouldn't make a difference, others said re do.

Using Benjamin Moore paint really did make a difference.

The different brands use different pigments to arrive at the *same* color. The two color samples may appear alike in a 2 dimensional way under the white light at the store, but put them on the walls and it's possible to look completely different. Often it doesn't matter that much. Good enough, as they say.

Beiges are problematic. Grays are a big dice roll. I think it is SW that mixes color without a "gray" pigment. One of the majors does. Then there's greige. That's where you get the different undertones.

I agree Todd about them side to side. But the travertine is definitely a yellow tint (with New Venetian Gold granite) so probably calls for a yellow based color. The bathroom is its own room so I'm not sure if the paints in both areas have to flow or be the same/complimentary?

Southwest..I would think yellow would affect your color choice. By yellow, I mean the the impact of the sunlight. Try B.M. Gull Wing Gray or any gray on that strip. It has a blue undertone which will cool things down and stay true. Chantilly Lace is a good white as a coordinate. As for your two considerations. I am going to say no to them, as each has a bronzy undertone which will change drastically once on the exterior.

Manchester Tan under 3000K LED lights is the perfect greige color I spent years looking for. It is very neutral. It is a gray tan. It looks grayer in cool light, tanner in warm light. It never looks pink, lavender, peach, green, or yellow. (If the sunlight is bouncing of the grass or trees, yes it is greenish. Under incandescent light bulbs, it looks like Desert khaki, tan with a very slight olive brown to it.) Revere Pewter, Edgcomb Gray, and Elmira White looked lavender to the female half of the family, Once we said "Lavender" noone could stop seeing lavender. Gray is on-trend, but I keep seeing lavender or blue in most of the gray products out there. Neutral is hard because our perceptions can make the hue shift slightly. While Red always looks red, gray does not always look "gray". It is also known as Berber White. Spring in Aspen is a lighter version. Feather Down is lighter still.
