Does it really matter if the 50's BR's didn't have shaker? If you like it, and you're going to the trouble of replacing doors, I would do whichever style you like best. Otherwise, why not just paint your 'real 50's' doors? You're not putting in 50's light switches, and I assume you're not putting in a 50's fan. Doesn't look like a 50's toilet... I actually like the look of the shaker style drawer front in your pic, even though I have shaker doors in my kitchen and went with slab on my smaller top drawers. Problem with the shaker drawer front, is I am not sure if you can put a handle in the middle part, is there enough wood? So, if you wanted to position your new knobs/handles in the middle that might be a deal breaker. I am not sure if this option would work for you, but in our Master BR we did not have enough space to put in a 4 gang box. I positioned 2 2 gangs one above the other. You could do 3 and 2, or 2 and 2 using one double. I put my two programmable switches (and I strongly recommend using a timer switch for your fan) together, and the light switches together. In your case, I would put the three light switches on one gang, and the fan and the outlet on the other.

Thank you everyone for information. We run a 6 bedroom house off solar, invertors and batteries in Baja 4 months a year but my husband doesn't mind investing into it and so far has not taken much interest in helping me with my log cabin. He is a wealth of information - and reads Power Mag, Home Power, Mother Earth, etc. Maybe when he has our home in Baja completed (our first one burned to the ground with 9 others), he will be more willing to invest some time and money into our log cabin retreat. In the meantime, it is MY project and I DO need to educate myself and read up on these things. LazyPup, we are taking your suggestion. We are leaving for the cabin in a couple hours and taking a battery charger that we will plug into the generator whenever someone wants to shower and it is SUPPOSE to send the 110 from the generator and convert it to 12V (the pump for the shower) without even a battery inbetween. I will see how this application works for a temporary solution. (family reuion this week) By next year maybe I can have a more permanent solution so that the other family members using the cabin can operate it easily. PoohBear - we do use JC Whitney for a number of supplies and they might be a good information source for me as well. I did call Mayberry where we bought the generator for information and a remote turn on switch which I hope to install next year. Thank you everyone.

Hi there, I don't have a paint color to recommend to you but I wanted to point out that your carpet has a pinkish undertone, and, your hardwood floor has a yellow undertone. As long as you are choosing a paint with either a yellow undertone or a pink undertone one or the other room isn't going to look good. Might I suggest going either really light, like cream, or maybe head in a different direction, like green which would go with both undertones? A warm grey could work too but I have virtually no experience with choosing grey paint colors so I cant advise a specific color.

I think mixing warm and cool colors (i.e. beige and gray) is very tricky and very hard to advise based o n how colors on computer monitors display. On my phone your colors look quite differently from my laptop. For example, your sofa looks different on every picture, sometimes more gold, sometimes more orange, beige, or even slightly greenish. I'd probably go with an off beige or cream. Bunch of more pictures although the first three sofas don't seem to be mor epinkish brown. How about something like this? Accessible Beige or Agreeable Gray might work here and lots of cream, off white, beige, greige, warmer grays. Alternatively, would something like BM Quiet Moments or Healing Aloe? Or SW Sea Salt or a very, very light blue/gray? Probably wouldn't work with red, though.
