Need Help Choosing the best neutral gray paint color
Comments (10)There really is no substitution for testing the colors in your space and different light through the day. For a suppposedly neutral color, greys can be tricky. Fact of the matetr is that a greyy can be any color plus black or some canceling tones. Revere Pewter goes violet on me and Edgecomb grey a bit green in some rooms. I wound up going to Sherwin Williams and trying their colors. Agreeable Grey was the right tone for my living areas, but I am doing them at 150% to get a little deeper color. I am using Anew Grey in my entry and stairwell -- that hasn't been done yet. . More important to your question about going with cool and warm colors -- the Agreeable Grey in my FR had to work with red brick, cherry hutch and dark wood floors as well as blue, green and white in the upoho;stery, rug and kitchen cabinets and counters. Anything that tended green made the red brick fireplace more intense and anything too warm made it pinker/orangier. Agreeable Grey at 100% was too light -- was too close to my grout and looked chalky, so we just added more color and went to 150%. SInce it is a light color to begin with, it is still light, just richer. The result was amazing -- my red brick calmed down. No more orangey, purpley/brown red. And it is so soft and neutral with the blues,, green and white. We did the ceiling at a reduced value. It was the first time I had used SW paints and as much as I liked BM, I was just as pleased with this job (DIY)....See MoreNeed some warm neutrals for master bedroom.
Comments (9)With that ceiling you want something with a little orange in it. I don't know SW colors well, but I think - yes, again - BM Capitol White would be gorgeous with the pine ceiling. I'd also look at BM Beach Haven And here is my pine-ceiling DR with BM Putnam Ivory (which I kind of wish I'd painted in Beach Haven) And FYI: SO important, do at least three coats of BIN or Zinsser 123, otherwise, you will have those pine knots bleeding through the paint. I'd even put two extra coats over the knots themselves....See MoreNeed help picking neutral (whole) home interior paint color
Comments (101)Comedy of errors (only after we had a few drinks was it comedic) 1. We greatly underestimated the effort to paint textured walls, especially on the ceiling. That and we're 15 years older than many of the projects we've done the past. 2. Turns out we got the wrong color paint. I'm not sure why I had a different color paint stuck in my head and even though I checked color swatches I still got it wrong. And now that we're going to pay someone to do it I definitely want to make sure the color is right. Only after I came back to this post did I realize I gave the store the wrong color. We're going to suck it up and pay someone to do it which is good because that also includes trim and doors. Although now I have to take a week off of work. Good news: we can donate the paint to Habitat for Humanity ReStore....See MoreNeed help picking neutral shade for foyer, hall, kitchen, den.
Comments (11)I think the current paint is easily neutral enough for real estate sale. A better investment of your time and money might be to rent a storage unit and begin to eliminate the abundance of your things that are making the rooms look crowded. You also want the furniture you do keep in the home to give each room a purpose. For example, in pic #1 you have a china cabinet in the living area. For realty, it should be put in your dining room or stored, if you don't actually have a dining room. In the same photo, the table on the wall to the left and the piece on the right side are constricting the walkway into your living area. You want to increase the impression of spaciousness, so that little bottleneck should be eliminated. In the kitchen, I think your cabinets look fine and in good shape. You might want to replace the pulls and knobs with some that match the finish on your light fixture above the table. Clear the counters, remove the corner shelf with all the fall decor and remove the clock and calendar. Remove any wall signs. As well as I can tell, most of the items on your walls are too small and are hung too high. Better bare than just not right. You're way ahead of most people at this point in the game....See Moreandreadeg
