Need some warm neutrals for master bedroom.
I took my friend/designer up to our new cabin the other day. The main objective being to pick exterior stain colors and start to layout furniture placement. While there she decided that we should paint the master bedroom and bath's wood planked walls. We can work with the wood in the rest of the house but decided the master bedroom and bath would benefit from paint. The plan is to leave the ceilings the wood. I showed her a pic of another house we looked at and the owners had painted a few rooms and that sealed the deal on painting this space. My plan is to go to SW and grab some candidates and get her to help me pick from those.
Here's the room now, this is not my furniture and the carpet will be replaced with slate look tile in bedroom and bath.
Here is the paint job at the other cabin that inspired us.
My plan is to decorate using greens and aubergine. But want the walls and floor neutral enough to change it up if I'd like.

I looked at that color a while back to re-paint the master, before the remodel started, why I thought it was a good idea to try and do a little project on my own leading up to a big one I don't know why (and by my own, I mean my husband would paint because the last time I did was a decade ago and it ended in tears). Comments (2)I think you can take inspiration form your artwork. The copper brown and the gold both make for nice warm counterpoints to the blue. Comments (13)Can someone tell me what this color white means for me then? It's supposed to be a bright white. Will it work with the crisp muslin? Sure will. DEW380 is a very pretty white. As you can see from its hue family notation it belongs to the middle of the Green-Yellow (GY) hue family. Chroma of 0.10. And that's everything you want in a clean, crisp, neutral "just white" white. It would take some diggin' to find a color that does not work with DEW380. With its low chroma it even works with other colors of white and you don't have to worry about either color of white looking dirty or dingy - again, because DEW380 has such a low chroma value of 0.10....See More

7 years agoWith that ceiling you want something with a little orange in it. I don't know SW colors well, but I think - yes, again - BM Capitol White would be gorgeous with the pine ceiling.
I'd also look at BM Beach Haven
And here is my pine-ceiling DR with BM Putnam Ivory (which I kind of wish I'd painted in Beach Haven)
And FYI: SO important, do at least three coats of BIN or Zinsser 123, otherwise, you will have those pine knots bleeding through the paint. I'd even put two extra coats over the knots themselves.

7 years agoFYI, annette. I picked the Putnam Ivory (or a color with that slight orangey/yellow from looking at southwest homes with colors like that under wood/pine ceilings. I recall that Linda Ronstadt's AZ home, which someone here put up, was one of them.
Here is her DR, which was an inspiration for the color for me, along with a lot of other houses there with this combo.

7 years agoI really struggled to find the right color for my bedroom ... I'm talking having 10+ swatches on my wall for over a year... and I finally came up with PPG parchment and love it. It's a creamy warm neutral that looks as if the sun is shining on the walls all the time.
