moving pv cats from one plant to another - how to handle?
Comments (5)My thanks for the suggestions. Elizabeth, unfortunately they didn't really leave enough of the plant to pinch part of it off. These are newly planted variegated pipevine plants, I think tiny even when mature. I was so surprised at how quickly the plants disappeared. :-) Did as khakitag suggested and just picked them up and gently moved them to the another vine that still has some leaves on it. Really wasn't certain if they could be handled that way so thank you for letting me know. I can only hope there are enough leaves left to get them through this cycle of their life. Comments (4)I hate my stupid $2,000 Kenmore Elite 5 burner "two" oven dual fuel range, and they don't get much cheaper than that! The convection feature in the larger oven is really loud and does not work like true convection does. The racks stick horribly when trying to get them in/out, the small oven is a waste of time b/c there are no pans that will fit it (7" max width). The burner grates are a poor design and pans have tipped right off them and once time almost burned my daughter who was standing near me in the kitchen. The controls are cheaply built and the back-area where they are located moves when you push the buttons. There are a zillion reasons why I wanted a pro-style rangetop (where I do most of my cooking) and a true convection wall oven. For my FIL's rental apt, the absolute cheapest all gas range we could find to fit a 36" space was a $1220 Premier range that you might consider at a minimum. Comments (7)When we've had to move with our kitties, they seem to like it best when they are in their carriers with a heavy blanket draped over the top- not covering the front, just over the top to block out a lot of distractions that can be distressing. Since the weather is cooling now, heat shouldn't be too much of a problem. The best advice I have for you is to line their carriers with old towels, take a few extras along, and have a clean-up kit that consists of paper towels, cleaner (vinegar/water works well), plastic grocery bags for garbage or sealing up a soiled towel, and an extra jug of clean water in case a kitty needs to be cleaned up on the road. As responsible as my cats are, we've had a few travelling episodes that involved cleaning up both ends of a cat. It helps to prepare for that in advance and hope you don't need it! Like the others have said, just make sure the car is well sealed before you let them out of their carriers. I had one cat that we use to take everywhere with us; she travelled in a harness with a leash. She could slip her harness if she really wanted to, but only did so when we left her alone in the car. It was nerve wracking to come back to the car, find her unharnessed and sitting contentedly on the front seat, and know that we had to open the door and grab her for fear she would slip out. She was an old cat who didn't travel well in a carrier :) Good luck. Q...See MoreHelp me convince my husband this house is perfect out
Comments (24)Debra, if this is your first home and you have a typical first time home buyers budget there is going to be a lot of compromise. Most of us don't get everything we want in our first home, and sometimes we never own our "dream home". The important thing is that being able to buy your first home puts you in the game. Try to find a home that is in a decent neighborhood that has good bones and won't need a ton of updates to be comfortable. The kitchen may have wood cabinets and you may prefer white, but more important - are there enough cabinets to hold your dishes and are they in decent shape. You can live with wood, but you can't live with cabinets that are falling off the walls or have shelves that bow in the middle. Making sure the home has been maintained and the roof, HVAC, plumbing, foundation, windows and doors are in good shape is important. You can improve the colors and make things pretty, but as long as it functions well that can come in time. Find your home, move in, live there for a year, figure out how your budget is working with the added expense of home ownership. Keep a journal of the things that work and don't work for how you live. Plan a renovation budget and tackle the biggest pain points first. This is a marathon and you have many years to accomplish you goals....See Moredonna_loomis
