You have my sympathies. We're expecting a hot day today, but it's supposed to be followed by rain and cooler temperatures, thank goodness. This has been an odd spring, humid, so that the heat was hotter and the cold, colder. We had our last fire in the morning about ten days ago. It hasn't been pleasant for humans, but the plants have grown like I've never seen before. I guess in your case it's time to start enjoying the prospect of cool drinks under the pergola.

Similar situation here too, Nik. Supposed to be in the upper 90's and 100 for the foreseeable future. Ugh. We actually had more than two weeks of spring this year. I am spoiled!

I'm mostly nervous for my nervous system... I hate the heat... shouldn't have been born in this country... but I hate cold also... I'm also nervous about my electricity bills since I'll switch the aircon on.. where's the place with eternal spring? Or fall? I don't mind either..

I hate the heat too, but can easily tolerate "cold"; not that it often gets to be what I would call really COLD here in Italy. But heat is worse; you can't escape it (no AC here, at least for us). It drives me crazy that some people call summer "la bella stagione" here,when more than half the time it's unbearable to be outside. O, well, I guess I should just be grateful that at least up until now my plants-especially the babies-have been recieving regular water. I've found it very pleasent ,too. I love cool weather and rain (though my arthritis might disagree,lol). OK, so maybe I'm more ache-y when it's humid. But when it's hot, I'm listless, devoid of energy and will,sweaty and sticky,and am loathe to go out of doors.Plus, summer seems to last forever qui in Italia. Long, endless, soffocatingly hot days, each one monotonously the same...UGH.I'll take cool any day. Land of eternal spring and fall sounds GREAT!!!

We're in the high 80s and low 90s here in upstate New York. We've just planted 12 bare root David Austin's that took a week to get here :(. Hoping they survive!

We finally got some nice warm weather here this weekend. But not HOT yet. Still a nice breeze and not too humid. But the sun is hot and I now plan my gardening by which area will be in shade at a particular hour. We have a very unusual cool spring. I still have mildew on some of my roses, even ones that full sun all day.

I'm sorry to hear that summer has arrived too soon for Grecians, with all the other issues going on out there right now.. but it's always good for tourists, I don't think they mind too much, often returning home to bragg about how hot it was in such and such a place..

...my relatives are over in Europe from N.Z. - intrepid travellers, we've already seen them here, and now they are in the Med, a place called Kallimera, not quite sure where that is, maybe a Greek island, but think they pick up a cruise... the Med seems a rather disturbed place at the moment, so rather them than me, but they're off to Machu Picchu at some point..

Kalimera, which means Good Morning in greek, sounds more like a hotel or resort name rather than a placename. The only place actually called 'Calimera' that I know of is a small town in the south of Italy in the Grecia Salentina region where people speak (or used to) a greek dialect called Griko. I doubt your relatives went there though..

There are good things about summer, namely that you can take a dip in the cool sea, which we did this afternoon, and that you can sit outside at night to enjoy a drink. Mosquitoes not withstanding..

I understand the sentiment. It will hit the low 90's (91) here today, and will reach 100 by Friday. Edited... New report... 107 Friday!!! That's July weather :( ... So far it is predicted to dip back into the 90s the following week...

Homes, buildings, etc. here are air conditioned. Fortunately, it does cool down a lot during the evening... for now... ( no mosquitos, ticks.. fleas... generally) black widow spiders, scorpions... but this is something we do spray for ( children... the elderly... immune system compromised etc.)

July is just Hades...

Same here it's 93 today and will be 110 on Friday and the rest of the week in the 100's glad I have my cheap above ground pool

Here, too. We had an early warm-up, then a surprise cold blast which did a little damage, then consistently cool and damp that slowed progression. I've seen mildew on things this year that never had them before. Then the temperatures jumped by about ten degrees, remaining consistently about 90F or higher for the past few days. The result is a lot of crispy blooms in my yard right now. For the once-bloomers in anything darker than mid-pink, that may mean the end of their season. 'Botzaris', however, seems unfazed in all-day sun. Those which have an extended first flush lasting through until mid-July -- here, that means my Bourbons and Hybrid Perpetuals -- will just need some tidying up to get them pretty for the next wave. The annoying thing about my area is that this early hot blast is fairly typical for this time of year, and what's also typical is that the beginning of June is usually a bit cooler than the end of May. That means it's just enough to cut short the once-bloomers, but not enough to stop the others. They finally rest by late July, with scattered blooms here and there until their encore in late August into September.

On the bright side, this is just what the Teas and Chinas want to get going, and it wasn't until just a few days ago that I started seeing rampant new growth on them.

The opposite here. We have had an extraordinarily warm Autumn, which ended last Monday. Up until then, I was still wearing t-shirts, and Winter only a few days away.

There obviously is no perfect place to be all the time, and some of us will have to suck it up with the heat for the next six months. I hate cruise ships, they are huge polluters of the ocean. There are rules about that but it's so easy to just throw it all overboard. Been through all the traveling and moving umpteen times, now home seems best, although it was better when the garden was a happier place. Still, some of the roses give me hope, and I'm so looking forward to seeing La France bloom.

Yup. Warm here too this week. In the 100's with Thursday through Saturday hitting 109 each day. Yikes! We shall see how the baby roses survive.

We can't match you, mustbe, but spring is coming to a screeching halt, starting Wednesday with mid nineties, and by Sat, June 4, we hit 100F, and Sun, 103F. Bye bye to the beautiful spring we had here. I enjoyed it so much.

Just starting my spring but it is heating up to the 80s, so everything will all bloom while I away, going to TX soon for birth of our 3rd grandchild, a girl :)

We've had an unusually mild spring here. We keep gearing up for summer, but then something happens and the temps go back to the moderate zone. (Not a complaint!)

This week TS Bonnie brought us lots of rain (8"?) and cooler temps, but we seem to have fared better than some other parts of the region that are flooded.

Our 10-day forecast has rain cloud symbols each day; I'm hoping we do get a bit of sunshine to dry things out somewhere in there.
