Last night had hamburger steak, mixed vegetables, and Texmati rice.

Tonight, think will have soup. Not sure yet.

Spaghetti and bread!

Lunched with three friends at local oyster and seafood restaurant. Had fried Louisiana oysters and gumbo. That's it for oysters until the fall.

I had my Meals on Wheels meal for supper: johnny marzetti, carrots, baked apples, salad, garlic bread. They're usually pretty good meals.

Never heard of johnny marzetti....had to look that one up!

I'm making stuffed pattypan squash (b. rice, black beans, onions, hot and sweet peppers, chopped tomatoes, cheese), chicken kabobs (with onions and pepper for flavor.

We are also having a mixed greens side salad with baby green beans.

We were apple wood smoking some bacon in the smoker today (there is no going back to store-bought!). I hate for that extra room and smoke to go to waste, so I put in some ranch beans and prime boneless beef to eat for dinner.

rhizo had to look up johnny marzetti and I had to look up ranch beans. The beans look interesting so have bookmarked a recipe.

Yummy, gyr. I used apple wood for the chicken tonight.

We had angel hair pasta and sauteed asparagus with cheese sauce, and black bean, celery, and onion salad.

I love angel hair pasta--I made enough for leftovers tomorrow.

Bacon burgers. Iced tea.

Dining alone tonight. Picked up a Subway sandwich, took it to park and sat in a pavilion during a rain shower enjoying the sandwich and a magazine. After the shower passed, hiked a short distance to observe nature and take a few photos. Watched a red winged blackbird pester a sand hill crane. It was comical. The attacks antics of the blackbird hardly phased the crane.

Johnnie marzetti is common around here in school lunches and in my cook books. Very hot weather in this area for the weekend. Upper 80's.

Like Jemdandy, we eat at home so much because of the wildlife.

Since I was just cooking for 2, I only used 2 chicken breasts but made the entire amount of sauce and all of the artichoke hearts. I added the capers, as well. Other variations of this recipe called for using creme fraiche instead of cream, and frozen artichoke hearts (thawed) instead of canned and that's what I did differently. Orzo really worked well alongside of this.

Sue, it's been a very long time since I went to school, but johnny marzetti was served at least 3 or 4 times a month. Glad to hear they're still having it in schools.

I've had that casserole a zillion times but never heard it called Mr. Marzetti. ;-)

In New England they call it "American chop suey".

I love Johnny Marzetti and I especially love Sausage Marzetti which is a slightly different version from Marilyn who used to be on the forums. Sooooo good, uses sage breakfast sausage.

I make baked ziti fairly often. Johnny Marzetti sounds like the same thing. How is it different than any baked pasta, or is it?

I don't have a regular Johnny Marzetti recipe, but the Sausage Marzetti that I enjoy has no cheese and is not baked, its a one dish top of the stove dish. Its a bit 'different'.
