Comments (19)Close to 2 years ago now, when my neighbor and I were both looking for new cars, we test drove a few Mazdas, including the 5. My neighbor (whose van was totaled) wanted something that would still let her haul gardening stuff -- many bags of mulch, flats of flowers, etc. She did like the 5 when she took it for a test drive herself. Once someone was in the passenger seat, it felt too tight, both in elbow room and head room. We both like a little more "air" over our heads. I don't see too many on the road, either: I think the 5 is just a mini-minivan -- and that people looking for that extra space just go with a traditional minivan. She ended up buying the CX9. She doesn't like it so much anymore -- the handling, the road noise. Road noise seems to be a problem throughout the Mazda line, I learned when I was researching for my new car (test drove the Mazda 3, 6, CX7; bought a Hyundai wagon instead). Concerning your height, there are so many vehicles now that have the seat height adjustment (either standard or as part of an optional pkg), and that will give you a better view of the road and a better handle for parking spaces. (And I agree with the concern that the dealership is so far from you.)...See MoreNeed Your SUV or AWD Vehicle Recommendations (Non-Luxury)
Comments (60)Along the lines of what Funky said, in 2015, I bought a used Lexus RX350, with low mileage that looked new. Its been great to haul dogs, compost, small trees, you-name-it. Brace yourself - I bought it after seeing it on Craigslist, and doing careful researching and having it checked out. It's incredible. A friend has a Toyota 4Runner that he loves, but he says the Lexus has more zip. It's called a crossover, meaning "the difference between the two is simple: A crossover is based on a car's platform, while an SUV uses the chassis of a truck. The result is that crossovers use "unibody" architecture, meaning the body and frame are one piece, while SUVs use a "body on frame" design." I also have a WONDERFUL place in Maine that services it for much less than the local dealership. They are all former dealership employees and do not try to up-sell anything like the dealer. I wish everyone had access to a place as nice as this one....See MoreCar colors, do you have a favorite...or do you even care?
Comments (172)Along with heated seats and mirrors, my Audi has a heated steering wheel option that I love. Both the seats and steering wheel heat almost instantaneously. Although it's not as cold here in the PNW as some places, I love having a warm steering wheel most days/mornings of the year. I also wanted a back up camera, as I'm always delivering and picking up my grandson from school and those little ones can be hard to see walking behind the car. One feature I hate about this car, though, is they placed the bright headlight indicator on the lower left side of the instrument panel and, even though I'm not particularly short, I cannot see it without raising myself up to peer over the steering wheel. Not the wheel, but the center spoke/bar of the wheel; it hides the indicator. My good fried with a newer Volvo SUV says the same is true in her car...she can't see the indicator without lifting herself up to see over the wheel spoke. It also has the radio controls on the center console, so if you bump it or set your purse on the digital station settings, it whacks everything up and you lose all your presets. It's obvious that men engineer all these vehicles as the features are often not female user friendly....See Morebeaglesdoitbetter
