Kitchen Island Color - Help Me Choose

We are planning on upper and lower white cabinets. Countertops have not been decided, but will probably be a white and grey granite. Floors will be wood, although, not sure of color yet. What color would you choose for the island? I'm trying to decide between white, grey or wood with grey undertones. Kitchen will have a drop ceiling with bead board. We are thinking of painting bead board a grey color. Fireplace in great room will have some wood detail on wall above and or on sides, which we are also contemplating on painting grey. Not sure if mantle should also be grey or white?

Any thoughts on how to tie everything together?

Picture of wood samples is the color of cabinetry and the darker one would be the wood color available for island. If we did a grey it would be a painted grey.

This is off topic, but have you done a space plan to see how you'll arrange furniture in this space? At first glance, it looks to me like you're going to have some challenges. Maybe you chose this floor plan from a model home and walked through and you're okay with it's limits? If not, we can help.

Pretty inspiration pics. My advice would be 1) Choose your granite first, then the paint colors--many more options available in paint than stone, and paint can be custom mixed. 2) Put the DW on the other side of the sink, not in the prep zone between the sink and range. 3) Move both the fridge and range down a few inches to provide more space in the prep zone.

You know, I never considered white, probably because I have color everywhere. That is something to consider. I'm not sure about the green ceiling though. Of course I've never had color on my ceiling before. I appreciate your suggestions. And just when I thought I had it figured out.

On this client’s kitchen remodel, we opted for Shaker style painted cabinets for the perimeter with stained Alder cabinets for the island. The countertops are Caesarstone quartz Frosty Carina. I think a similar color for your island cabinets would be very beneficial to your kitchen as well.

If you're planning on changing your lighting, do that first as it will likely affect paint colours. If you do want to brighten your island, I don't think it would be a mistake to go with your perimeter cabinet colour as Sina suggested or even your wall colour. And if you look up your wall colour, you might find the manufacturer recommends complementary shades that might be perfect for your island.

I would streamline your surface colors. There is a lot going on between fireplace on the diagonal which will be a focal point, dinette,ceiling treatment as well as island all adjacent to kitchen itself. Consider white island, a subtle, light counter running throughout and standard wood flooring.....oak or the like.

We chose white perimeter cabinets and a dark brownish gray stained island. Our cabinets are Huntwood and the colors are Colonial White and Arctic Gray. Our granite is Glacier White. I thought my kitchen might help you visualize what the brown gray island might look like in your kitchen. Ignore the builder grade lights! The second picture shows the true color of our island.

I agree with herbflavor...keep the islands white and the granite as soft/unbusy as possible.

Go choose your granite before deciding on your island color. Like Mama said, you work from the least choices to the most choices and paint can be any color, whereas granite you're limited to what's there.

Plus you may wind up seeing a granite that was not what you originally thought you wanted and then if you've already picked your cabinet color you're out of luck.

Benjesbride, I just noticed the floorplan is not quite accurate. The sink and dishwasher are actually located on the island. As for the rest of the floorplan, there is not much that can be done. My husband is the one building these. There are a total of 13 units. It was the best layout of space to make everything fit on the site. I'm not crazy about the small living / dining space, but its what we have to work with. I should add, there is a nice finished basement and attic, so plenty of other "living space." They are already built and sheet rock up at this point. Its merely finishes left now.

Out of the island, ceiling and fireplace, I think I would like at least two of these grey to help tie everything together and help make a statement. I'm just not sure which two or all three. The floors will be wood throughout, with the exception of the half bath. The ceilings are 9' throughout. The drop down will be 7'10 with the beadboard at about 8'6.
