Sink: Stages vs everything else: want large sink with ledge

I finally got a chance to see the Kohler stages in person (they only had 33 on display but I'd be getting a 45). The cutting board is too heavy for me and I don't think I'd use the bowls much. I really want a cutting board, colander and dish rack so all those accessories I would have to purchase separately. I do love the ledge in the Stages sink.

is there another 45" sink that is more affordable and also has a ledge. I fell in love with the Blanco 45" with 16" ledge/drain board but it's $500 more than the Stages and comes with zero accessories.

I like both the Prolific and Ruvati 8300 but neither has the ledge. I've done so much research on this and haven't come across any others. Am I missing something?

I use the bowls quite a bit. Even if you don't want to use them as prep bowls, they make nice soup bowls or small serving bowls.

You can get an IKEA colander that fits perfectly. You can also get adjustable colanders. But, honestly, I put my colander on the grid and chop veggies and just slide them over and into the colander.

As for cutting boards, not too expensive to get a wood one ordered custom. The big cutting board is very nice and I rarely carry it around. It either lives on the sink or on the counter next to it. I flip it down to rinse and return it to the rails. The white plastic cutting boards are very nice and we use them all the time.

Although my kitchen is not yet completely finished......LOVE MY NEW KRAUS large single bowl. (kitchen is creamy white cabs with marble) I've had single years before and a double bowl just prior. Of course pros and cons to both. If you're in between the two I'd say go for 'the look' you are trying to obtain. To me..Single is simple, traditional and classic and seems more 'recently updated' (goes with the marble). Double is more recent, 80's -90's practical yet not as refined. Then again, maybe I'm just partial to the 'new' single bowl since I had to live with my last kitchen which was in need of a remodel way too long....It was a double bowl with light blue (yes, light powder blue) laminate countertops-yuck! What look are you going for? Do what makes you happy!

I don’t think the Stages comes with a colander, at least it didn’t when I got it. It does come with a large wood cutting board, large white tray/cutting board, small tray/cutting board, 6 ceramic prep bowls, bottom sink grid, and under counter rack. The prep bowls are well designed to both stack and be reversible, although I mostly use them with the larger size up. I like the square design because it’s easy to use a wood spatula to scrape out the contents. The bottom grid hasn’t been a problem for me. You do have to lift it up or take it out to clean the sink, but that outweighs the advantages of being able to set things on it to drain and the fact that it protects the bottom of the sink from scratches. I do wish it was in two pieces so it would more easily fit in my dishwasher. It is so big that I have angle it to get it in and it’s hard to load other items around it.

rosaserai - I do love it. It takes another minute to clean due to the ledges. Totally worth it. Hasn't scratched. I use the grates daily for drying. I use the strainer weekly. I use the cutting board mostly when we have company to cut sliced fruit for drinks - it is small and we have a large butcher block for other items. The basin is great for washing fruit - double up the strainer and then drain. Could the angle be a tiny tad more for better draining - maybe. I do have to chase some chunks to get them down the disposal. Could the white on the accessories not stain as much - yes. But a scrub with steel wool has removed all discoloration. Could the cutting board be bigger - yep. But would I get the sink again - ABSOLUTELY. I've had it 4 years and will put the same one in the next house.

Stacy, I have the Akurum line which had the split top drawer standard. It can be done by mounting a divider to attach the rails to. That is how I do the individual trash pullouts under the sink (see the under sink photo I posted earlier) . I dont necessarily think split drawers are an advantage because you lose about 3 1/2” storage. I like the off-white Bodbyn. It’s not yellow in my kitchen which does have warm lighting @ 3000K and lots of wood which causes it to photograph with a yellowish cast. Look back at my daughter’s kitchen to see how the Bodbyn looks next to bright white subway tile. She has warm lighting too. Also, Ikea has a new door, Akstad that is bright white. Hope you find something you like.

This Elkay sink has a ledge, but it looks like the ledge is larger and the basin is smaller than on the stages (the entire sink is a bit smaller as well, I think 43+ inches).

I looked at the Blanco sink for a long time and finally concluded that I would not be able to Install it because of the way the counters and cabinets fit together. Even though it higher price that would still be my first choice.
