What do you send for a funeral?

I get this duty for our office; it's an ok thing to have to do, but I get bogged down every time. Do I send a plant that you can keep afterwards? I hate the plant my office gave me when my grandmother died, but I feel obligated to keep it. However, a lot of people want a keepsake.

My former employer (we were quite close. He and my mom had been classmates in college) and wife gave me pearls when my grandmother died. I like that keepsake and save it for very special occasions, and I assume that was a unique situation.

This time, I sent an arrangement. I feel like, since she's traveling, she won't want to haul it back. I am second guessing myself, but I think it'll be fine.
