Who has used RH paint and how does it hold up?
Comments (15)Cyn, I think it has been around 10 years. It was whenever RH put their first store in my state. I walked in the store at the mall and instantly fell in love with the Silver Sage on the walls of the store. I had never even visited a decorating board website at that time so I did not learn about it here. I love their color palate and did every room in my house with RH except for one room that I wanted in a gray or charcoal. RH did not have their *Flint* line out yet at that time. I should have waited! :) I found RH paints to be one coat coverage. Great! If I ever have to repaint my ceilings white again I'm going with RH The Right White instead of that crappy "ceiling paint" I bought at the hardware store when I did it. One thing to keep in mind is that RH has a limited selection of colors. I think this is great because most of the "work" has been done for you with them narrowing down the choices to only what would be most popular. But............they don't keep all the colors around forever. Right now I have to repaint my whole bathroom. I changed out the lighting fixtures around the mirror and the new ones have a much smaller plate. I can't just do a touch up because they no longer sell the color. I'm really bumming because I have to pick a new color and the one I have on the walls now is perfect. It's kind of like finding out your favortie lipstick color or foundation has been discontinued and you have to start the search all over....See MoreDo travertine floors in kitchen hold up?
Comments (18)I adore travertine!!! I have honed travertine in my seldom used front entry. It still looks good after 12 years but does tend to look dirtier than my bathroom travertine look porcelain that's used multiple times a day every day. Killed me to make the decision to go with a porcelain travertine in the master bathroom but I'm not getting any younger and low maintenance was key. Unless I tell them, no one knows it's not real travertine (but they're not rock aficionados ;) ). I have tumbled travertine backsplash in the kitchen. With 5 coats of sealer on it, NOTHING has stained it in 14 years. Yes, I'm aware this is an old thread....See MoreGrouted 1" marble hexagon floor, how to clean up excessive haze?
Comments (2)Thanks for the reply! I talked with our countertop guy and realized that it's really more dried grout that is on top (rather than haze) that I didn't wipe well enough. So he said that what they use on occasion is Bar Keeper's Friend (even though it has a bit of acid he said) to get some of the tough grout that dried, and lo and behold it did! There's no damage to the tile, and it was a one time thing, but I'm glad there was a solution because I was getting very worried! But thank you for your response!...See MoreWill Honed Travertine for Kitchen Floor hold up?
Comments (3)Sure - so long as she seals them every year - like clock work. Go ahead and WALK her through a "year in the life". Pull out the sealing instructions (btw...did you ever seal/polish your travertine as it aged?). Pull out a can of the sealant. Pull out a few names of stone companies in your area - those who specialize in polishing stone floors. Take her to their show room and ask the questions you are asking here. Show her ALL THE WORK it takes to keep light honed travertine happy. And work means money. Then show her a high end porcelain tile in the same "look" - and then walk her through the "no fuss no muss" care instructions for those floors. And travertine is so soft and so easy to stain/etch it is ranked as a marble...for maintenance purposes. Ask her if she would ever have a MARBLE floor....my bet is she will say "Never! They are too much work!" That's when you swoop in and explain the travertine would be ranked in the same category....see how far that argument takes you. After that, if she won't budge, let her have it. She's a big girl with an eye for the beautiful. Just make sure she has EVERYTHING on hand (speed dial) for the yearly maintenance that will be needed....See Morenicole___
