Ovens: Miele vs. Advantium + Wolfe
Comments (8)Take the time to do a search here in GW, on the main appliance page, just use your "back arrow" to get to the appliance page, and then at the bottom of the page, type in Miele Oven. If you don't do this, you "could be" stressed more than You are now. There are a number of reports here, as well as other web-sites, where posters are complaining about "Low Temperatures" on the Miele ovens, sometimes as low as _50F from the set temp and some instances of -100F. We have seen no posts, so far, that this problem has been resolved. Do all Miele ovens have this problem??? Nope but if you are into "Crap Shoots" then do as the saleman suggest, Yes they may be "Better Built", but to me, that means when you tell it what to do--IE heat to 400 F, to me, "Better Built" means it would do it time and time again, as does the Electrolux Icon oven I've had for >5 years now and trouble free and always spot on temp wise. Rhome has had good luck with her Wolf oven, so another place to look. As many of us here Mention, Not one manufacturer makes the best of everything, Miele makes great Speed ovens and dishwashers, almost a sure bet on those---at least according to the info available to us, at the present time, their ovens are not in the same category as above! Good luck on your Hunt!!! Gary...See MoreRange & speedcook, or stovetop and dbl oven
Comments (16)First thing, to me, is how many cooks are in the kitchen at the same time? Both my wife and I are in the kitchen "doing our thing" at the same time. We had a range before, and one of us would have to "step aside" while the other used the oven or the cooktop part of the range. That was not convenient for either of us, soooo~~~When I redesigned the kitchen back in 2006 we went with separate wall oven, speed oven and induction cooktop. We find this arrangement very handy for the way we prepare meals. As far as the Electrolux Speed oven goes, We love it!!! It has been trouble free , all these years, (since 2006). It is our most used appliance. We use it for most everything except broiling, (it does not have an uncovered heating element above) so it can NOT broil. No biggie to us, as we like to broil outside, alto we could use the regular Elux oven for that. We use the speed oven a lot for both microwaving and "Speed Cooking". It bakes potatoes in 14 minutes, (including preheat), instead of 45 minutes to an hour, like a regular oven would take. It also convection bakes ,like a regular convection oven. It "Grills",I use that to make toasts~~~~toast comes out great alto it does have to be flipped and the speed oven has to "preheat" for a couple of minutes when using the "Grill Mode". The turntable must be used for Microwaving and Speed Cooking as the microwaves must be distributed evenly about the food, when microwaved or speed cooked. One can remove the turntable for convection baking, grilling or any type of baking where microwaving is not used. There have been posts where folks have said that they got the very best chicken they ever had using the "Speed Cook Method", ~~~~but~~~~it will make a "Mess of your speed oven", alto having a stainless steel interior, it "May be" easier to clean than the Miele oven, which has a different type of interior and we have seen complaints of the difficulties of cleaning some of the Miele Speed ovens. I have speed cooked turkey thighs, and breasts in the speed oven, fish, stuffed pork chops and all have come out great. I haven't done a whole chicken, so I can't tell you about that or the fun one might have cleaning the speed oven afterwards. We like the fact that the Speed oven is "Totally Automatic". Just chose what you want to speed cook and it does all the rest~~~~sets preheat time, speed cooking time and temperature, ratio of convection baking to microwaving, etc. It even tells you when to put the item into the oven and when it is finished, (timed out), it allows you to check the item for doneness, or correct internal temp, and allows you to add more time if needed~~sure great for folks our age, (70's). If you read reviews on the Miele Speed ovens you see that there is a bit of "Trial and error", until the best parameters are set up for "X or Y" dish that's just something I don't wanna fool with! HTH's!! Gary...See MoreMonogram oven and Advantium or Electrolux oven and speed oven
Comments (26)Don't like the knob? That's funny. I love the knob. It almost always does what I expect it to. I hit the quick microwave button: 30 seconds on the time and it turns on. I can flick the knob to add or subtract time on the clock any time before it finishes. (Peek inside. "5" "4" Hmm, not bubbling yet. Spin knob. "3" "4,5,6,7,8,9,10" "9" "8") So handy! I'm making grilled cheese sandwiches (which the Advantium does perfectly), Press "speedcook." spin dial to "sandwiches" and push dial to select. Spin to "cheese" and press. Spin to "1-2 sandwiches" and press. Press one last time to start. Easy, obvious, and soooo much better that poking at those gawdawful membrane buttons that most machines use. Set the timer? Press the 'timer" button. Spin knob to number of minutes, and press. Spin knob for seconds. Press. I can flick the edge of the knob and zing! I've got 40+ seconds dialed in, in a flash. Holding down an "up" button and waiting for the seconds to count up is awful by comparison....See MoreStacking Wall Ovens with a French Door Oven
Comments (21)New as of March 2020 just in time to be quarantined! I was also advised that the Advantium had to be above and the French door oven had to be below. My kitchen is too small to not have stacking ovens and I wanted to avoid stooping to get into an oven below a cooktop. (I'm almost 60, so I do not stoop so well anymore) I am also 5'7" & I agree that it is hard to reach the back corners of the Advantium to clean it - so cleaning back corners has to wait until the oven cools down, but hey that's what step stools are for. I have also discovered that I use the Avantium exclusively as a microwave (daily) and I use the French Door oven for all oven cooking - 3 to 4 times a week. I love how the French Door oven looks. However, because it is situated below the Advantium, stooping is still required to put dishes in and remove them from the French Door Oven. More importantly however is to make sure the doors open all the way & click open so that they stay open and do not burn my arms! Trying to just barely open the doors when adding an ingredient in order to conserve the A/C is just not a good idea. Also the oven racks slide out and back in - which seemed like a good idea in the store - until dealing with a hot oven, racks that want to slide back in and hot doors that want to close on you. Perhaps I am just not used to these modern conveniences yet. If I were to do over, I would raise the entire stack about 4" to 6" as I cook more than I clean. First World Problems....See MoreDrB477
