Help me find a proper white for my entrance hall
Hello everyone, I'm new to the paint forum and read
many great advices on this site over the years.
We just bought a house and will take possession in
a few weeks. It's a 1910 Victorian semi-detached house with West/North/East
exposure.
The house is freshly painted but unfortunately a

I would like to get rid of the grey and use a
warmer white instead (or any other color suggestion is welcomed). I don't want
the white to look too beige and would rather use a white with yellow
undertones. I also want the room to look bright and airy.
I will also be repainting the other rooms on this floor but not
sure what color yet (probably a matching white in the living room and a
contrasting color for the dining room).
Please keep in mind that we don't live there yet
therefore the furniture is not ours. The floors will be sanded and varnished
but not stained.
I would love some Benjamin
Moore color ideas since this is the paint I am the most familiar with.

Help me arrange the 'front hall' area of my living room
Comments (16)Caminne, that is a BRILLIANT idea, because I definitely need as much bookcase space as I can squeeze into every room, and at the moment there are no built-ins. Now, les917 cautioned against putting something just to the left of the door as you come in (i.e. on the living-room side of the door), to avoid cramping people (or dogs) as they step around the door, which I think it good advice. But if you look at my floorplan, you can see that there's quite a bit of space between the front door and the front wall windows. Floorplan: I think it should be possible to put a bookcase so it more or less lines up with the left side of the entrance to the dining room, which is about where I'd want the living room rug to end and the entryway rug to start. (Not describing this too well, but will try to photoshop a furniture-arranging floorplan soon.) In any case, I think that would leave plenty of clearance to get around the door - more clearance than you'd have in the entry to most historic rowhouses around here, anyway. That would preclude using the big desk as a sofa-table-type room divider, but I think it would solve two serious storage problems at once. I wonder if it would even be possible to have two bookcases back to back, with one facing the living room for books and the other offering baskets for leashes and mittens and whatnot on the door side. I'm thinking maybe about 36" high - high enough to make a divider, but low enough not to block light and to make it easy to put things down on top of. Comments (10)I agree with moving the table to the top of the stairs; the space seems too small for a table. Not sure what your budget is, but I know you can buy really inexpensive polypropylene runners quite cheaply and I think I'd add one on top of your carpeting...like this: I think it would make all the difference in your entry. Comments (8)COATS: I see on the floor plan that there is a closet in the office(?) If so, you could put a door in from the living room/dining room side and have that be your coat closet. Then you could get a shoe cabinet like this one https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/hemnes-shoe-cabinet-with-2-compartments-dark-gray-stained-20381763/ from IKEA to have by the front door. Otherwise I’d look at getting a hall tree/cabinet like the previous poster mentioned. Floor plan: see pics. If it works to put the door in for coats then put the dining hutch on the wall opposite the dining table. And possibly a couple of display cabinets to go behind the table. If not, put the hutch behind the table and put the hall tree wall opposite the dining table. Recessed lights: I laughed that you laughed about recessed lighting. They are extremely common in US no matter what the style. I love the ones you found and would definitely go in that direction. Floor: Love the floor. Would have area rugs to define living and dining or at least the living space. Bay Window: would need to see a picture. I think there may be some other options. I would be nice to be able to accentuate it. (See pic) Interior Design: I like where you are headed. Crown Molding: YES. Just do a little research on how wide. You don’t want to skimp. 7 years agolast modified: 7 years agoThe ceiling and trim is BM White Dove. First two pics are w/o the light on. Last two have the light on, but the last one is in an alcove and is not affected by the light, but it shows the color well. Last pic is the most representative of the color, I think. You can also see in the last pic that I have to finish painting the trim with the White Dove, so ignore the spackle!

I think the virtual house tour makes the floors look way more yellowish than what they are in real life. The lighting might have been amplified to make the house look brighter. Here'sa picture from the listing where the lighting and colors seem more accurate. i wish I had posted that picture in the first place.
