Brainstorming--Need Opinions & Ideas, Please!
Comments (10)I found that burlap is dusty (sheds fibers) to use. Rough and unfriendly to our tender little elbows. lol My mother in law put her antique/vintage hankie collection down on the dining table and covered it with a sheet of glass. I just had a wild visual image (dont worry my Dr. knows about them) of hankies on crisscrossed clotheslines strung like banners. It also has that vintage summer message of clothes drying in the sun. I would buy clothes pins and paint them all one bold color to match your table cloth or napkins or the main color in the hankies. I bought and restyled some dolls to be my laundry helpers. (see pic) Something like this would be a good center piece. The caucasion dolls were broken at Hobby Lobby. The others were lucky finds at resales. I took the golfer and put a miniature scrub board in her hands. The tallest one has a basket attached where I put my grandmothers embroidery and grandpa's hankie pieces. The tiny clothes pins could hold place cards. Go to the net and print off all of the vintage house working mom pics. I can promise you that no one else has ever given this party before. Ok. Thanks for letting me vent that idea....See MoreNeed help brainstorming adding space to laundry room floor plan.
Comments (4)First- forget #3. If you want to craft in your spare bedroom, do it! Just don't move the laundry plumbing in there. There's no reason to devalue your house on resale to a 2 bedroom value. Second- define what it is you want to do in your laundry room, and define the exact dimensions that you need. Third- Do not make changes to the Master Bath. It's one of the nicest features in your new home. Fourth- re garage space. Having a 3 car garage on a house this size probably isn't necessary for resale. However, your hall would need to take up 3'4" of the back wall of part of the 2-car section, so you would have to push the garage out further to the front. Finally, is this house size (exterior dimensions) is limited by your lot? If not, you could probably widen the house by 4 or 5 feet along a line starting at the front of the coat closet and running to the wall that holds the door to the patio. That would put additional square footage in your living room (a good thing), you would move the stairs to the right (giving you 5 additional feet where the laundry closet is now), then I would eliminate the corner cab row in the kitchen, make a small island if you need it, and VOILA you would have a big laundry....See MoreCreative minds needed to help me brainstorm for mini-remodel!
Comments (22)I looked at the paints you posted and if you want to paint green above the sink and stove, you will need to have it directly relate something else in the Kitchen scheme. This would mean you would need to find a glass tile that has the green in it or go with a totally neutral backsplash like the 4x4 tiles you are showing with the glass tile. A viewers eye will look for a relationship between the paint color and the backsplash or other features in the room and not find it. Even if those colors exist in an adjacent room, the relationship needs to be clearly there in the Kitchen. In this case, I don't think matching accessories will get you there either. Now for a little design editorial. I think the basic design concept that you should bring colors from one room to another throughout the house is a good one, but has been overused. The theory is that having each room relate makes the house flow. Whether that works or not really depends on a lot more factors. The premise is that each room should not be a completely different color, yet in some cultures it is the norm to paint each room a completely different color and looks quite wonderful in context. Okay, enough of that. In effect, you do have a color relationship between your rooms already and it is your basic neutral Khaki. There are some advantages to keeping the backsplash completely neutral if you want to use accent paint colors. You can change your color scheme very easily without having to change tiles. Basing your scheme on the neutral allows you to paint accent walls while the overall effect remains pulled together. Either choice is a good one. It's what works best for you. If you decide to keep the glass tile as you originally selected it, and still love the green, try to find somewhere else to use it. I used my green in the Laundry room....See MoreSafari menu, I need brainstorming help
Comments (7)Project Runway is about to start! This is it! --------------------------------------------------- Wild Zebra Sandwiches - Use a slice of light and a slice of dark bread for each sandwich. Stuff with your choice of turkey, lettuce, tomatoes, mayo, etc. Cut the sandwich into 4 or 5 strips, each about ½ to 1 inch wide. Carefully flip over the first strip so the different-colored bread shows. Skip the second strip, then turn over the third. Keep going, skipping every other strip. You now have a striped sandwich! Peanut Butter and Banana Sandwiches cut into animal shapes with cookie cutters. Bananas for the monkeys, Peanuts "elephant snacks", Broccoli "treetops" for the giraffes, Cheetos "tiger tails" Hershey Hugs are striped like zebras Animal Crackers of course! Ostrich - Chicken Nuggets Trail Mix Jungle Juice 2 (12 oz.) cans frozen cranberry juice concentrate 1 1/2 c. orange juice 1 1/2 pts. club soda or seltzer Orange and lemon slices Freeze orange and lemon slices in ring of water. Thaw cranberry juice concentrate. Combine with orange juice and chill. Add club soda or seltzer just before serving. Add orange and lemon ice ring for garnish. 18 servings. Here's where the fun starts... place a piece of dry ice in a sealed plastic container. Punch or cut holes in the container lid. Before serving drop the container into the punch bowl. Very cool effect! Variation: Smoldering Swamp Water - Float the dry ice container in a green beverage such as 7-UP...See Moremissouribound
