Need help with very small master bath...pix
Comments (21)You don't have to know what will go on the upper part of the wall. Prep and prime it and you'll be ready when you decide. I think you can use that medicine cabinet if it is something you love. I'm not sure how to judge your "is it too much" thinking though -- do you really love it? As far as size, make sure you have the height for it with lighting that you like. Include the height of your vanity, the splash, some room above that, the mirror and then see what you have left for lighting and clearance above and below. I would like the wider mirror, but if your ceilings are low, you may need to go shorter. If the mirror fits, what would you think about getting some rub n silver from the craft store and adding some silver highlights to the mirror and lightening it up a bit? If you like that idea, go to Hobby Lobby or Michael's and get some of that rub on silver (yep -- use your finger even), and give it some highlights. That might soften it a bit and tie it in to your lighter room. If you've never done anything like that, find something to practice on -- a picture frame, a flower pot or vase - something that you can play with and see how it works on edges and details. For lighting. look at the fourth row of that Ferguson's lighting link, look at the Feiss Claridge. That could follow the shape of the top of the mirror and it might be nice to bring in another curve rather than a straight line. Personally, I like a three light fixture most of the time. It's that odd number thing, plus, if that is the main source or only source of light in the bathroom, I think it's better to have the ability to have more light and tone it down with a dimmer or smaller bulbs if you need to or want to. As far as the toile, it's hard to say not seeing the space and what you have. It might look great, but you keep your other elements in mind. Glad you kept the grout light. I do think that the floral idea will work better than some other toile patterns because of the round and flowing lines. The ones that are tiny sketches scattered could wind up looking like one more liner element. All I can tell you about the creaminess is that I can't tell you anything from my monitor. You'll have to look at the different elements together. You should be able to order a sample of the wallpaper and you might want to try a few to compare....See MoreRemodeling Master Bed and Bath, no walls please help
Comments (1)I would suggest a wall across the narrow part of the room, just before (above) the doorway. Make the toilet side of the division the master bath (7 or 8 x 14) and the other side a walk-in closet (5 or 6 x14?). Leave the toilet in the current location. You don't have how far the toilet is from the right wall, but if you turn the back toward the hallway you can make that a private alcove with a wall and door (if you want) Opposite the toilet you can have a linen closet for storage. Plenty of room in the rest of the bath area for a separate tub & shower, double sink or two vanities, more storage. That would leave 18.8 x 13.8 for your bed, a dresser, perhaps a bench at the end of the bed or small sitting area. Just ideas, not certain how much closet space you want, perhaps steal more from the bath on one end. Since you already have plumbing with the current toilet, would help keep expenses lower. Good luck, lots of room there!...See MoreHelp needed for master bath
Comments (11)I agree that the idea of a door IN the shower is asking for trouble, but you certainly can have ALMOST that very thing: - Put the tub and the shower on the same side ... this works well because they're roughly the same depth, and your 17' long bathroom is long enough to handle them side-by-side. If the tub and shower are 4' wide, you have space for a 3' wide aisle and 2' for the vanity ... just right for your space. - Put the tub (and windows) across from the bedroom door so you'll have a pretty sight line upon entering the bathroom. - Place the shower towards the back so it's right next to the exterior door. No, it's not "quite" your dream shower, but a door one step from the shower isn't really all that different. If you don't want much glass, go with a shower curtain ... but definitely go with a short curb (2" is the minimum) so the water will stay away from your exterior door. You have space for the shower to be massive, so no problem with the two shower heads. - This brings the vanity to the other side ... you'd have about 10' of cabinet space, which you could arrange anyway you want, and you'd have no shortage of storage. - That leaves the toilet "behind" the cabinet (or behind a pony wall). This places it out of view, yet it's easier to clean /easier for an elderly or handicapped person to reach....See MoreNeed help on a small addition master bedroom and master bath 19x19
Comments (13)We're adding a slightly larger master suite (20x26) that also includes reconfiguring the original space to create a hallway entrance next to an existing hall bath. Our architect configured the space so that the new master bath abuts the existing hall bath, presumably to minimize the plumbing work etc, as in the 2nd sketch by @er612. She also aligned the new master closet with the existing space which just helps as a sound buffer. The rest of the layout was decided based on views - optimal placement of windows, strategic placement of the bathroom door, having wall space for a TV if you want that....See MoreProject Specialist Lowe's of Harriman, TN
