The President and Romona, yesterday these two were beautiful. The dark and light purple blooms entwined together, wish I had taken a picture yesterday!

Oh, my sympathies! They look like happy healthy specimens, so I imagine will recover well. (Sorry no advice; we see plenty of ice, but not usually in the form of hail or while the clems are blooming.) Hopefully someone else can help.

Do you normally cut back your clematis after the first flush of blooms to get rebloom? If so, I would cut back now for earlier second bloom. If not, I think I would wait for a couple of weeks to see how they recover on their own. Then cut back if needed. The season is too short here for a big second bloom so I don't cut back and have to be satisfied with the scattering of blooms that continue after the first big flush. Fortunately It includes a large collection of clematis with many mid to late summer bloomers.

Last year midsummer we had a huge windstorm which blew all the blossoms from my clematis along the deck. The leaves stayed but there was very little rebloom. Went from a multicolored beauty to a wall of green. Hoping for a better showing this year.

Thank you both. Yes, I will cut back some now on the type two's, and get the damaged stems off. Fortunately, it only damaged 10 of them, the rest were protected by the west fence and bushes ect. It is early enough here to have second blooms I hope.
