Use kilz, then one brand of primer, different brand for paint??

We bought a home from a smoker. My husband has been painting and been tackling the rooms with dark colored paint. First he washed the walls with TSP (and was amazed at what came off the walls. He said it was gross!) then once dried and taped off he dusted and vacuumed corners of ceiling. He applied one coat of Kilz because we wanted a paint that specifically had odor blocking properties. The problem is the room had dark colored paint. So now he wants to prime it and then paint.

He said in his experince he doesn't like the 2-in-1 paints (paint & primer together). He also said it is far cheaper to buy primer, use that, and then splurge on a quality Benjamin Moore paint. We love BM and the colors we want are all Benjamin Moore colors

His friend gave him some leftover valspar primer. So we have 2 gallons that have never been opened. Score!

Our dilemma is how is this going to affect the final product? Is it OK to mix different brands? First Kilz, then valspar, then Benjamin Moore? Should we instead spend the money on Benjamin Moore primer? It's so hard to let 2 gallons of free primer go to waste :(

if anyone has tips on how to make the mixing/matching of brands work then please advise... since the walls are already painted with kilz, at this point would it make a difference if we mixed and matched??
