spring /summer nail polish ?
Comments (25)Eeeeeeeeeeeee ya'll are make me squirm over here with your toenail falling off stories! Ouch, ouch, ouch! For hands, I think a pale nude/pink is flattering if you find the right one for you. Since you don't care for french though, you may not like that look either. I find them both to match pretty much anything and think it looks very polished. No pun intended. Mitch what brand/color white are you using? Those that paint your toes (dark) colors most of the year, what base coat do you use? I've tried many and find my big toes end up discolored after a few months. My fingernails never get like this but it's very rare I wear color on my hands. I typically only wears reds and pinks on my toes....See MoreGel nails anyone done them?
Comments (12)I JUST started getting gel manicures about six weeks ago. Prior to that I only buffed my own nails, and then occasionally had a manicure and had them buff, or apply clear polish. My nails are extremely soft and peel, and I am particularly rough because I'm a germ nut and don't use gloves so I'm always putting them in hot water and digging in the soil. The only time they grow is when I'm in the hospital or have broken something and can't do much! I was concerned about the filing of the nailbed but have a great manicurist and she is so careful, barely buffs it, and we use a gel color called Bubble Bath (OPI) and it's a pale pink/nude. I can literally do anything I used to do, which before would produce a chipped manicure within hours of getting it, for about ten days to two weeks. The only problem is the way it's baked onto your nail, when your nail bed grows out at the bottom the polish so the layer of polish lifts up and separates and it looks a little strange, different than a regular manicure. But I can get about twelve days out if it, it's only $35 here, plus a tip, and my nails now look nice at all times, with just cuticle oil. I have skipped a time or two between and just gone with buffing, but as noted above, it's great for special occasions and you can get it done a few days ahead of time and still know your nails will look great. They have grown a bit because it has seemed to strengthen my nails....See MoreTell me about manicures
Comments (53)I've done acrylic, gels, solar and just plain manis. My nails grow fast and sometimes they get really peely, other times they're nice and strong. For the last year and a half I've gone bare nailed and keep them relatively long-just over a 1/4 inch. When one breaks, I file it and let it go-then I will keep on top of the others so they don't get too long and eventually they all get to the same length again. Nails are just like hair-they're dead-they grow from the root so the key is to keep the nail bed hydrated and keep cuticles in shape. I apply cream to my cuticles daily and that helps a lot. And I keep a nail file with me at all times. The slightest snag inevitably leads me to picking at my nails and usually tearing them if I don't file that snag. I prefer to paint my own nails, and I've found quality polish is best. I can't keep them from chipping more than a couple days, but then I'll touch up the chips and I can make a mani last about a week. I do love the look of the long, uniform fake nails, and I used to get really fun french tips-usually turqusise glitter, but the time commitment was getting to me so I quit. My biggest complaint with getting a mani is that they rush the polish process. I have found if I wait at least 30 mins between coats I get good adhesion and the polish lasts longer. And SUPER clean nails is imperative, the slightest bit of oil on the nail bed will cause polish to chip faster too....See MoreDo you do your own nails? Wear polish?
Comments (41)Nope, no professional nail treatments for me, either. Way back, when I was young, I often wore polish on my fingernails, and occasionally on my toes if I was wearing sandals. I've worn only athletic style shoes for almost 40 years now, so nothing but necessary clipping of toenails. And fingernails I trim as needed while watching TV. Have any of y'all tried a glass emery board? They are great for leaving a smooth edge on your nails, it's all I use now. When I was young (and slim) I always wanted long fingernails. I have no idea why, it was just sort of 'the thing to have', I guess. But no way my nails would grow, they chipped, split, broke, anything but grow long. Probably because I did so much with my hands. But now that I am older, and have no desire for long nails, they grow long, strong and fast! But I keep them just a tad longer than the tips of my fingers. Anything longer is just a nuisance!
