scott home, I was not able to find sugar cane or the honey jar jujube tree in my area. I just plant my Li jujube tree this year and I heard it bears bigger and very sweet fruit. The best place to find Meiwa seedless kumquat(which is best tasting kumquat) is JRN nursery in Houston. They have many trees and usually let you taste the fruit too. Kumquat is so unique that you can eat the skin and all, it is citrusy but not much like orange either, it's delightful that's all I can say, plus you do not have to harvest whole bunch at once and store, it will stay on the tree through frost and cold and does not change texture or taste so just pluck some eat all through the winter.

Good Afternoon, We have 1 1/3 acres. The front east side of our property is my "stone" fruit grove (even though some of these are not stone fruit). I have the following trees there: Apple Peach Nectarine Pear Avacado Persimmon Plum Mango Pomegranate I have just ordered additional trees for this area including: Apricot Jujuba PawPaw Pluot Aprium Asian Pear Our front west yard is our citrus grove. There we have: Pink Grapefruit Yellow Grapefruit Varigated Pink Lemon Harvey Lemon Key Lime Navel Orange Orange I have in pots ready to be planted: Finger Lime Red Lime Persian Lime Blood Orange Satsuma Orange The east side of our house which has a creek running along it has: Bay Banana numerous Plantain Pineapple numerous Monstera Deliciosa Miracle Berry Coffee Cinnamon Papaya I am looking for a carambola to add to this area as well. Our east rear yard which backs to the golf course has: Passionfruit Lychee Our back west yard is my berry area. We have: Blackberry Blueberry Barbados Cherry (Acerola) Rio Grande Cherry Strawberry Seedless Grapes Muscadine Grapes I just ordered for this area to be shipped in January: Goji Berries Kiwi Orangeberry Mandarin Melon Berry The west side of our property has: Mulberry Loquat Pineapple Guava Strawberry Guava Brown Turkey Fig Moujean Tea Eugenia Confusa Our entire front yard, which is about 1/2 acre is ready for relandscaping. We anticipate using that for our nut trees. I have almond, pistachio, macadamia, pecan and date palm in mind. We are working with a landscaper to have our circular driveway lined with coconut palms. In my herb garden I have: diviners sage cardamom cuban oregano nastrutium turmeric aloe feverfew spilanthes toothache plant self heal mesclun numerous common herbs, ie, rosemary, basil, pasley, oregano, etc. In my earthboxes I have tomatoes, hot peppers and beans. I still have space for about 20 additional trees and am trying to figure out what to put where. About 1/3 to 1/2 of our trees are mature. The others are anywhere from 1-4 years old. It is my overall plan to have the vast majority of our property landscaped with edibles within the next year or two. We have lived here for almost 10 years and have been working on it during that time. It's my wish to have all of our trees producing before our children are grown. I'm happy to share seeds from fresh fruit that I have producing right now, including key lime, barbados cherry, pomegranate, etc. Blessings, Kelly

Here's my one cent: I haven't done much landscaping, as I'm from NYC and my patch of dirt was about 12' x 12'. I live in NC in a rental house on about 1/4 acre and have been playing around with the property a little bit, and thinking about what I would do. If you look up permaculture zones, you can get an idea of how to section the property to use it the most economically. It is wise to halt planting for now until you come up with a grand plan. I understand taking things slow and frugally. I would think about what you value most in your garden as far as structure is concerned. If you have slopes, you can uses swales, french drains, hugelkultur, to maximize your water and recycle/harness nutrients from waste material. You can even set up a site for water collection in a small pond and create an irrigation system from the overflow. Or if you want to invest in managing the landscape for the long term, you can save up to get machinery out or professionals to put in a retaining wall or terrace the slopes around your house. Another thing to think about is containers. Right now, I am part of a permaculture gardening group and we trade plants and seeds. I have a crabapple, wild peach, elderberry, mulberry, two lime, and grape vine, all growing in containers, until I get my own property. My advice is think about the types of plants you want to grow, join a master gardener's class/club, and start collecting plants while you make your plans. Good luck!

You can plant some semi-desertic plants.....such as Date Palm, Prickly Pear, Olives, Ficus, Pomegranate, Carub..if you have water you could also try some Citrus
